Zigbee ConBee dongle

I have some smart valves specifically this one here

Z-Valve ZigBee Smart Water/Gas Valve, Tuya Garden Water Shut Off Timers Irrigation Controller Compatible with iOS/Android, Compatible with Alexa/Google Home/IFTTT https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B082Q2PWJF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_AZMuFbY8V40X2

I know Tuya requires internet connection and in the interest of making sure I have as few liabilities as possible I have to rely on electricity but don’t want to have a failure if internet connection goes down too.

If I use a ConBee dongle and connect the valve to homeSsistant via Zigbee will it still require an internet connection?

No, it’s all local.

Great thanks for clearing that up.

I don’t need a hub either right?

If I have the dongle in the pi the home assistant is technically the hub?

Correct, you don’t need a hub, the dongle is the hub.

Before you buy the ConBee, make sure that the device you want to integrate is supported.

Oh I thought all Zigbee be devices would be supported?

How do I find out if that Zigbee valve is supported? I just ordered the ConBee

Here’s a good site that shows compability for different devices with different coordinators, you need to look in the category deCONZ or ZHA (ConBee supports both).

Maybe you’re lucky and it’s similar to this device. https://zigbee.blakadder.com/Tuya_valve.html

Otherwise you might be able to help developers integrate it

That’s exactly the one I’ve got. Thanks

Trying to set up this ConBee now and I’m running into some problems.

When I open the phoscon app in home assistant the “add new lights” button appears but there is no button for “add new switches” or “add new sensors” it doesn’t make sense why they aren’t appearing?

They are under the categories switches and sensors respectively, not under lights.
