Zigbee devices keep disconnecting

At least once a week my zigbee devices get disconnected,.
This is the message

I use a CC2531 dongle, in the usb port of my NUC running on windows 10 / Virtualbox

Put the adaptor on a USB extension lead to move it away from electromagnetic interference sources (like your PC) and metal objects.

It is on an extension lead, but I will check if it is near any electronic device

Make sure it is not a USB3 port too.

Are you using ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT?

The CC2531 is not a recommended dongle.

OK, didn’t know that could be a problem too

See my updated post above the dongle you are using is not a good one.

It is described on the site though,
Zigbee2MQTT

I see that there was a breaking update 2 days ago,. maybe that is my problem
Zigbee2MQTT 2.0.0 breaking changes

https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/guide/adapters/zstack.html#not-recommended-cc2530-cc2531-cc2538

Also yes there were a lot of breaking changes. But if you are only experiencing intermittent loss of connection then none of them are your problem. See: Zigbee2MQtt not working after update to 2.0.0 - #8 by tom_l

any advice what to buy for HA?

Do you have a PoE network switch?

I like these: CC2652 P7 Based Zigbee to PoE Coordinator 2023 – TubesZB

  • Outstanding customer support
  • Can be placed centrally wherever you have a network connection
  • No messing about with serial by id / USB issues
  • Excellent performance.

I actually have an older version and have had zero issues.

sadly no PoE

Byron (Tubes) is sold out of the ones with external USB C power supply (can be network connected for ease of locating or used via the USB C connector), CC2652P2 based Zigbee to Ethernet/USB Serial Coordinator 2023 – TubesZB

If you join the wait-list on that page he usually has new stock ready in a few days.

can this be something to use?

Conbee 2, Dresden Zigbee usb stick

or

Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 ZBDongle-P USB

I wouldn’t. No external antenna for good range and there is an open issue noted for it: deCONZ (Dresden Elektronik) | Zigbee2MQTT
