I’d like to improve my current setup regarding my zigbee devices and would like to get some advice regarding the best hardware/software stack.
I currently own a few Hue lightbulbs and a Hue hub. I also have a few Ikea Tradfri lights which I paired to the Hue hub. I do not own a Tradfri hub.
In the future I want to add more zigbee based devices. I am especially interested in adding battery powered buttons that I can freely use in Home Assistant to trigger automations. I believe the Aquara Buttons are often recommended for that?
The things I can currently do with the Hue hub seem to be rather limited when it come to integrating non-Philips hardware. So I want to replace it with new hardware and an open source stack.
Ideally that new stack and hardware should be able to upgrade the firmware of my existing devices (hue and ikea) and that of possible future devices. Is that even possible?
So I have a few questions:
- What software stack would you recommend (ZHA, zigbee2mqtt, deconz)?
- What hardware should I buy? I know that each stack has a list of supported hardware, but I’d like to get recommendations from people who have actual experience
- What pitfalls should I Iook out for when moving from Hue to the new thing? Eg. is pairing devices that were previously paired to the Hue bridge a problem?
Thanks for any hints.
