I am quite new to Zigbee but have experience with Zwave.
I installed a new Zigbee device and noticed that its path to HA goes through a battery device, even though I have a (non-battery) plug that is closer to the new device.
Does Zigbee have an option to heal the network and/or to change the path ?
I don’t think so. If it works leave it.
That’s the issue. This new device (Sonoff Curtain control) sometimes shows the wrong state in HA.
I cencirly doubt that this is caused by the network path. Is this device supported by z2m? I believe you are using z2m.
Good question but I don’t know. As mentioned I am new to Zigbee. I remember that the instructions for the device mentioned that it needed Zigbee 3. Could that be the issue ?
I don’t know. You can use zigbee2mqtt or zha. Which one do you use?
I know that on the z2m page you have a list of supported devices. For zha I don’t know as I don’t use it.
If you device is not supported that doesn’t mean that it will not work but it can be buggy.
There is a thing called external converter for z2m so Google around for your device. Maybe someone wrote firmware for this device or to add some functionalities or to correct mistakes.
usually, battery operated devices do not act as router, they are just end devices, are you sure your device is going through from a battery one?
Yes that is what I thought as well but this is what shows:
Map might be more useful
He is using zha integration. I don’t know if there is a map for it.
Thanks. I realize that Zwave is more powerful than Zigbee, but some devices only exist with Zigbee.
When I have some time I will remove the sensor and see if that changes the path, even if that is not the cause.
I don’t know how did you come to that conclusion but it must be right.
I’d be curious to know more about that sensor. What it is exactly, brand and model. Battery powered router may cause some serious headaches.
Also, seeing the ZHA map would be helpful. ZHA does have it as a display option.
The picture makes it seem like the device was added via the sensor, not the coordinator.
There is indeed a map and it shows that the new device connects as I wanted to, through the wired plug. Now I need to understand why the sensor shows.
When I connected the curtain control for the first time it was practically on top of the Yellow Box but it may still have chosen the sensor. Weird.
In the Amazon description it shows:
I wonder whether my Zigbee (Yellow Box) is an older version.
The sensor is a cheap device from Temu. It works though.
What I mean with “more powerful” is that Zwave has more options to manage the system, with Heal as an example. Maybe “powerful” is not the right wording.
It is a Zigbee 3 coordinator (hub is not the correct word, but most commercial vendors call their coordinator hub or gateway)
