ZigBee Lights 2.0 or 3.0?

Setup:

  • Sylvania Osram LIGHTIFY LED adjustable color RT 5/6 73741 (190 of these with latest 2019 firmware)

  • API: Home Assistant version: 2021.10.6

  • Interface: Zigbee2MQTT version: 1.21.2-1

Problem:

- State changes work most of the time, but the lights seem to fall offline often

  • Latency for light state changes

Question:

  • How can I tell which version of Zigbee these lights are using? 2.0 or 3.0? Does that matter

  • I hate to change out 190 lights, but I might have to. Which Zigbee 5/6" color can lights would be affordable and work well.

I don’t think a Zigbee 2.0 exists. It is either 1.2 or 3.0.

What coordinator are you using ? 190 lights is a lot.

I think you are correct. But I think that my lights are pre 3.0. I can’t find out for sure anywhere though.

This is my coordinator:

CC2652P2 Based Zigbee to Ethernet Serial Coordinator
Plus 3 of their routers.

In theory, the coordinator should support 200 devices.
I can’t find the link any more, but I read on koenkk’s GitHub the recommendation to split the network in 2 when over 150 devices.

I ended up splitting the network in 4, and running Hubitat HE hubs due to the fact that the integration for HA is so nice and clean. I have a stable zigbee network now for months with 190 devices.

It does matter because hardware and firmware of most modern Zigbee Coordionator adapters are limited to around a maximum of around 200 “Zigbee 3.0” devices but can practically handle an unlimited amout of Zigbee 1.x devices, reason for that is that Zigbee 3.0 require a lot of overhead. See FW specs:

One tip is to install both the ZHA integration and Zigbee2MQTT, or several instances of Zigbee2MQTT.
