Zigbee smoke sensor WITHOUT alarm?

I was wondering if there’s a zigbee smoke sensor out there somewhere, that won’t sound an alarm? I know, it sound weird, but hear me out.

We have a ventilation system type D in our house. So all air is provided through vents. Clean air is pumped in the bedrooms and living room, “used” air is disposed of in the kitchen, toilets, storage room and bathroom. But we live in a half-open house, and our neighbor next door has a chimney pretty close to our common wall. If the wind direction is unfortunate, then our ventilation system sucks in the smoke from the chimney. Because of this, we’ve gotten very dirty airducts and dark spots around our vents. We can’t move the air intake on our roof to a different spot, but I do have a smart plug that I use to turn off the ventilation system when we smell or see that our neighbor has lit up her stove again.

So what I’d like to do is, place a smoke sensor close to one of our vents (for example the one in the living room) and when it detects smoke (or a certain level of it), I would like to trigger a script that will turn off the ventilation. And if the smoke level is back to a low, it should turn on the ventilation again.

So, is it out there or should I go look for a regular zigbee smoke detector and just fiddle with the wires so that it won’t sound an awfully loud alarm when it detects smoke? Preferably I’d love something without an alarm in it of course, but I’m open for anything now really.

Also, asking the neighbor to not turn on her stove won’t be an option lol, she’s old and she puts the stove on even during Summer.

I just searched. Perhaps this will work for you.

If you can’t find a zigbee solution, an SDS011 sensor connected to a nodemcu running esphome might be a good approach.

That looks great, just a shame that it doesn’t operate on batteries.
