all references I found point that zigbee sniffing is possible using GitHub - zsmartsystems/com.zsmartsystems.zigbee.sniffer: ZigBee sniffer using Ember NCP and routing packets to Wireshark for display but for that I have to be able to run java on the host. However, I fail to find java on the host or any ability to sideload packages. Is there a way to sniff zigbee traffic without java or alternatively install JRE on the host?
thank you
What do you want to do ? Normally to sniff Zigbee traffic, you use 2 dongles. One running your normal Zigbee network, one to sniff the passed Zigbee messages. Those 2 don’t have to be on the same machine.
That is helpful. Thank you. For some reason I thought I would need to sniff the traffic off the same USB device that is on home assistant. If I can sniff it off the air on another regular Linux PC I just ordered another dongle.
What I am trying to achieve is to figure out what battery information send end devices. I am new to HA trying to decide between ZHA and Z2M but both give me some weird battery readings on couple of devices I moved off Smartthings for testing.
