I’m running Zigbee2MQTT in a docker container with a Sonoff 3.0 as the coordinator. For some odd reason, it won’t allow me to pair any new devices. I was trying to add another Sonoff 3.0 flashed with router firmware and it wouldn’t work so I tried 2 new aqara motion and a sonoff outlet, but none would pair. I don’t see anything in the logs. What else could it be?
Perhaps all the available connections to your coordinator is used on end devices and it cant handle any more. How many routers do you have in your network? None?
@stigvi I only have 12 devices connected and 1 router. I was trying to find out the max it could accept on the router and i’m seeing some people have 80 plus devices connected. I feel like i’m barely scratching the surface
What coordinator?
When was the router added? If recently, have you restarted z2m since pairing?
@jerrm i’m using a Sonoff 3.0 as the coordinator
The router was added a while ago, but recently I have noticed it has been going offline quite a bit. I was trying to add another sonoff as a router and thats when I noticed I couldn’t pair additional devices. If it shows on the map, but offline is it still connected?
No, the limit is not 80 + devices. Without a router, the limit is around 15 (depending on coordinator)
Try to remove a couple of sensors, add the new router and then add the sensors back as they hopefully will take advantage of the new router.
@EdwardTFN one thing I still don’t understand is if my router shows offline in the device list, but when I check the map it shows connected LQI around 150 so is it connected even though it shows offline?
You can do that, but if you try to pair normally the sensor should take care of finding an available router.
Just try to put everything as close as possible to their final location before pairing, so each device will try to find the best route from the beginning.
That faq is for a 2530/2531. The 2652 is much more capable and runs a different firmware.
I don’t really know what the limit is, but it is closer to 80 than 15.
My HA is on a large ups, and after an extended power outage most all of my battery devices in range (50 or so) were connected directly to the coordinator.
Even now I have a 2652 with 20+ end devices and that doesn’t include router connections.
There is a bug where a recently flashed 2652 router can be marked offline in the device list, but actually still be functional. It does confuse things like the map.
I’ve done a fair amount of testing and discussed originally at: Router Stick Marked Offline · Issue #13758 · Koenkk/zigbee2mqtt · GitHub.
The below steps have resolved issues for several in the forums.
When adding a newly flashed router stick:
- Flash the stick and unplug
- Place z2m into permit pairing mode
- Plug the new stick into power
- Let pairing complete
- Restart the z2m add on/container within a minute or two
In your case I would probably try:
- Force remove the existing router stick(s)
- Restart the z2m add on/container
- Reflash the stick(s)
- Pair again using above steps
Have had similar problem, sorted it out with physically disconnecting z2m Stick and plugging it back.
@jerrm yep this is my exact issue I am having with my router stick, but still can’t pair additional devices or a new router stick I was going to use to extend my zigbee network. I’ll give your steps a try, but worried I won’t be able to pair the router back.
Not sure, but maybe it’s the channel i’m using. I switched to 25 instead of the default 11. Since my network is relatively small right now, I can try another channel and repair everything.
The only other thing I can think of is I do have a Nortek USB stick that I use to run both zigbee and zwave devices off and moved everything to the Z2M using the sonoff 3.0. I tried pairing some devices to that and it worked right away so I know the devices are in pairing mode. It’s been running so I don’t know think this could be causing my issue, but maybe.
Probably not much to lose at this point. An interim test could be try the force, restart, and then try pairing.
Also, have you tried pairing directly to coordinator via the Permit Join drop down?
Doubtful. Rare devices can be picky about channels, but most Aqara stuff is fine on 25. I run on channel 25, and have at least one of most of the battery Aqara sensors.
I do recall seeing channel issues in the forum with the Aqara FP1 radar sensor, don’t remember what was good or bad though.
Yes I have and no luck. The coordinator is in my office and I tried to join in here just a few minutes ago.
I’m running mostly Aqara motion and door sensors for my zigbee network and zwave for my light switches. Some of the motions work great, but there are a few that are spotty so was hoping adding the routers would help with expanding the network. If I can’t repair the router i’ll probably start over and see if that fixes it. Thanks for the help!
How’d you end up getting on? I’ve just deployed 2 x Sonoff ZBMinis as routers to my Sonoff dongle P but now I have three Aqara sensors that just won’t pair at all. I know if I move them closer to the coordinator, they’ll pair straight away but I need them paired via routers as I have a very large floor area.
If anyone can suggest a better (in-wall) router than the ZBmini that might play better with Aqara, happy to take the advice.
