I have three ZSE70 800EU Outdoor Motion Sensors with firmware 1.30 that produce lots of phantom events. There is a firmware upgrade on the Zooz website that claims to fix this, but HA says version 1.3 is the latest firmware.
How do I go about getting the new firmware noticed by HA?
You can go to the Zooz firmware download page to obtain the firmware and update it manually. I am giving link to the page because if you have any other Zooz product it will be listed there too. The products are grouped by region, so pay attention to the region you will need.
Download the firmware file you need to a folder on your computer. Extract the file.
I used the Z-Wave JS UI Control panel, select the sensor to upgrade, on left sidebar Node will be highlighted, Click on the Green ADVANCED button upper right, click on the Begin link under Firmware update. click on File and browse to the folder where the firmware file is located. Leave target at Zero. Click on OK.
This sensor is battery operated, so it will not update the firmware while it is asleep. It will queue the firmware update for when it wakes up. The default time to wake was longer then the queue’s wait time so it would timeout on me. So I found that in my case, it much easier to take my sensors down and open the back to press the button to wake it up manually and Click the OK to update the firmware.
The 1.40.1 firmware does fix the problem. The release notes state Firmware: 1.40 (released 08/2026 as OTA)
Fixed a bug introduced in firmware 1.30 where waking up to measure temperature or ambient light could incorrectly trigger a change in the PIR motion status. The PIR status now remains unaffected during scheduled sensor measurements.
Fixed a bug in S2 Authenticated Security where direct association commands could fail due to duplicate Supervision session IDs (SDK 7.24.2 issue), preventing the associated device from turning off after motion was cleared.
