Can anyone please recommend a z-wave lock they are happy with. I have had a Kwikset 910 for maybe 5-6 years that, well, when it works it works and when it doesn’t it is very hard to get working.
I’ve searched and I see nothing but trouble across the board for most. I get that people aren’t on here raving; so I’m looking for a rave.
I’m leaning towards Yale, but before I drop ~$200, are people happy with a model? Another manufacturer?
I use multiple SmartCode 888 by Kwikset, not the greatest but been solid since installed a couple years ago, despite alot of Z-Wave integration issues, and replacing/upgrading host a couple times.
I’ve got 3 Kwikset 914’s (deadbolt only) and 2 Kwisket 912’s (one of the integrated handle models). I’ve been very happy with them. Easy to setup, they’ve been rock solid. I even transitioned platforms from SmartThings to HA with them and have had no issues.
I use a Schlage smart connect Z-Wave lock that has worked great. I have had trouble with moving from the legacy Z-wave component to Z-wave JS but once I got it working it has been solid.
I use the Keymaster custom integration and it works great.
The key to any of the locks is that the installation is done correctly so the deadbolt doesn’t have any drag when operated. Any drag on the deadbolt will cause the battery to fail prematurely.
I chose Schlage because of the Certifications:
Commercial Standard Certification: ANSI/BHMA A156.36-2010 Grade 1
Residential Standard Certification: ANSI/BHMA A156.40-2015 Grade AAA in Security, Durability and Finish
I have two 910s, and just got a kwikset 888 for a 3rd door. The 888 is zwave plus vs just zwave like the 910. It paired much easier with the lock on the door a littleways from the hub (910s needed to be moved to the zstick to pair) and has worked well, but is a bit louder then the 910. I’m a little disappointed it’s still s0 security though and not using newer s2 security. I’d probably go with a lock with s2 security if I get another one.
The zwave alliance database might help with a search and list all the features
I’m using a Yale Assure Deadbolt with their Z-Wave Module. Has not skipped a beat in the 18 months I’ve had it, could not be happier. I’m using a Fibaro Home Centre 2 as my Z-Wave Gateway and the Fibaro integration for Home Assistant.
