Zwave faster directly connected to home assistant?

I’ve been looking for an answer to this online, but I can’t seem to find one. I currently have all of my lights/switches set up through Samsung Smartthings then integrated into HA. My question is if I buy a zwave dongle and add all the switches directly to HA, will the lights/switches respond faster (i.e. turn off/on faster after giving the command)?

Hope that makes sense!

Yes.

All smartthings commands have to go out to the cloud, then back to your local smartthings hub to be processed. Afterwards, it has to send the reply back through the cloud. This is going to be very slow (relatively).

Even if your SmartThings devices supports local processing, this HomeAssistant integration in SmartThings does NOT use it and still requires an internet connection to the SmartThings server.

I had the same thing, an old smartthings hub and a few devices. Button presses would take seconds. Connected an Aeotech zwave stick directly to my server and used the built-in zha integration, and also set up a separate zigbee2mqtt device. Both things are updated instantly.

Ahh, thanks! That’s pretty much what I figured. Looks like I’m getting a dongle and going full HA for my set-up.
