Zwave issues @ times

Good morning,

I have been dealing with zwave issues that I can’t put my finger on it.

I’m running home assistant os on dell mini computer. It’s a well spec machine probably way over kill for what is ruining. I also use Homeseer g3 (700) usb dongle. I think is made by silicone labs for them. Tuning zwave js u

My issue is that I wake up in the morning and my outside lights are still on and at times when I go and check some boxes are failing. I can bring them back by pinging them or tuning healing command. This is getting old and frustrating. Not sure if it’s the dongle that is doing it or something in home assistant.

One thing to mention and I’m not sure if it would matter. My computer is in the basement in my network closet so I ran 25ft usb extension to the middle of the basement and mounted in floor joist there is where the dongle plugs in.

Should I get Zooz or aeotech 7 dongle ? Any recommendation would be great.

I can not give you a solution to your issue as I am just not technical enough. However, let me describe my setup.
I have some 80 Zwave devices, using a Zooz 800 series dongle with Zwave JS UI on a HA Yellow Box. I also have the occasional not-responding devices which then come back after a ping.
I created an Automation so that those devices are pinged once every 30 minutes. When a new device needs to be pinged, I add it to the Automation. In the past 5 months that I have had the Yellow Box the ping issue has not happened more than 5 times, though of course I don’t know if the ping Automation has prevented recurrences.
Our internet modem is at a far end of our condo and therefore I have connected the Yellow Box to a secondary pod of our Google Wifi router, at the center of our home. That has been rock solid.
Again, I am sorry that I don’t have a solution for you, but maybe my setup gives you some pointers in the right direction.

Thank you for replay EndUser. I just ran health on all of the nodes and then reinterview, let’s see if that helps. I also plug in my dongle right in to the usb port of the computer.

How do you like zooz 800 ? dose it even uses that long range or devices actually have to supported?

I’m between that zooz 800 dongle and aeotec gen7

Also how did you setup that ping automotion? what did you use to triger that?

Trigger: Time pattern
Action: Call Service - Zwave ping a node

How do you like zooz 800 ? dose it even uses that long range or devices actually have to supported?

Having some 80 Zwave devices, my Zwave mesh is strong and I don’t know whether the 800 long range actually works or adds anything, but for the low cost it made sense to me to upgrade. I have no complaints about the Zooz dongles. They seem to work fine.

Great, Thank you. I will try the ping if devices fail again tonight. It seems like it only happens at night.

Will look in to zooz 800 today.

Is there one device that is particularly problematic? I had an issue on my zwave network where some devices were slow and one was particularly unresponsive. Sometimes healing helped and sometimes it would fail. Once I removed the faulty device the whole network started performing properly.

High error rate from a single device previously caused my zwave network to become unresponsive. This was with open zwave not zwavejsui.

HA settings >> devices &services >> zwave >> devices >> select device >> 3 dots next to "configure >> statistics

Look for high (hundreds or thousands) of dropped RX or TX. This is sign of bad connection and will cause problems. You can try heal node and see if there is improvement. If not I recommend aeotech AC repeater in strategic(s) location

Cant tell you how but you can also create an automation that will send you notification when a zwave devices becomes “unavailable”. I did this for the controller but not individual devices.
