I have right now all my switches associated to each light switch which means that the entire zwave network o have in my House works without home Assistant automation or anything like.
More or less stand alone.
Down side:
when i toggle the light my light switch then need to be toggled as Well (which results in double clicking my light switch)
it is cumbersome to manage all associations in zwavejs2mqtt
If i would use scenes then i wouldnt care if i had a wrong State of 1 switch or the other , it would then be stateless. Which is an upside.
But now i rely on home Assistant to always be up.
What do you guys Think, should i continue with the associations or should i go rely fully on home Assistant ?
A little like asking a bartender in a bar if you should have a drink.
I think you can make HA very stable and make it so it requires little upkeep 1-2 hrs per month. On the other hand it might get you hooked. I have no associations with my z-wave devices and manage everything from HA. My preference.
HA is solid but developers are updating and improving it nearly constantly and if you have FOMO you might get sucked into more updates and time.
I think if you switch you will have a better WAF (Wife Approval factor)
Im using home assistant with automations for my zwave devices etc.
But what i have in place right now is the associations to control the majority of my house.
I also have a switch here and there control my Sonos through HA.
What i was curious about was if anyone was doing the same or if you found the preference of not doing the association.
Because my first thought when getting into smart home was to make it all “stand alone” and not requireing a hub. But then again i can see that its very difficult to get around if i suddenly want to automate stuff or use other products that is not zwave.
Dont get me wrong, i do like to use HA
The WAF is very important here
As I stated above, I don’t use associations. As I write more automations, I have to remember what is associated and if I want the association in the automation. I used them early on when I was automating my house but have moved away.
