Zwave struggles

I’m a long time openhab user and am trying out HA after my host laptop bricked. I’ve got my zwave stick (AEON) plugged into Pi-4 and figured out which /dev address it is on. Starting the network, it just spins. Below is the only log output I get. The documentation mentions setting up the ports in raspi-config, but this isn’t available via ssh. I’m a little fuzzy on whether HA OS completely supplants raspian, but suspect this is the case. Any help appreciated.

Is that a Z-Stick Gen5, or Z-Stick Gen5 plus?

The plus version works fine, but the earlier version has a issue with the USB voltage provided by the Pi-4’s USB controller. You can still use it, but you need a USB hub between them otherwise the stick shuts down whenever you try start up the zwave network

Interesting. Its a few years old. I don’t recall if plus or not. Worked fine on the 3. I’m not opposed to buying a new one, but I’ve got a lot of devices I’m hoping not to have to pair again.

I haven’t tested it myself, but they do offer a migration guide/tool for those moving from Z-Stick Gen5 to Z-Stick Gen5+.

If it’s a few years old, then it’s the version that is not compatible with the Pi 4.

Yeah the plus has only been out since last year.
You needn’t really buy a new z-stick, a powered USB hub will only set up back 10 bucks. Doesn’t need to be anything fancy, even USB 2.0 would work fine, and then you don’t need to migrate or re-pair your devices.

Non-powered USB hub

Oh really? Sweet!
