Zwave via Vera or Openzwave?

As I still use my VeraPlus as my main controller so I have added it to my config. I showed all switches, plugs and sensors so fantastic!

My Q; would there be any advantage (or disadvantage) of using OpenZwave for the zwave part instead of linking to the Vera controller as I do now?

No risk of Vera shutting down and disabling your hub.

The risk is small, but it happened to Revolv.

Thank but not so worried about that. Can then still move my devices to openZwave.

Was more thinking about any known technical or functional limitations that would occur in HASS (like states or missing attributes I would see/can use)

Did you move from Vera to OpenZwave?
What is your experience?

I am considering the opposite: adding a Vera as a Hub for my Z-Wave devices because I am not happy with reliability and config options in Hass (with OpenZwave and the Z-Wave stick).

Hi, I actually still use both. Both are not ideal. Vera has a delay in HASS which especially for door sensors was an issue. Furthermore I had incidents where they would not report at all in HASS. So I migrated these to OZW. Also new devices I tend to add to OZW. For now most of my dimmers and switches are still in Vera.

Thanks for the answer!
2 days ago I bought a VeraPlus. Currently testing it but not sure if I’ll keep it or return it.

If you don’t have a very specific use case and you like HASS, return it. I have used Vera for over 5 years (also have the vera plus as latest but also almost all previous versions).

Hi @ThomasM,

What did you do in the end? I’m considering the same thing sick of the recent reliability of my OpenZwave and Z-Wave Stick.

@jamieb: I returned the Vera.

Cheers for the feedback.

I presume your still using the stick and open zwave?
