2023.4: Custom template macros, and many more new entity dialogs!

Except that only a masochist runs HA directly on windows

Love the continuation of the new entity dialogs.

How does HA determine which dialog UX to show for covers? Iā€™ve got blinds that tilt, but I am presented with the raise/lower slider vs the tilt slider. Is there a customization that can force the dialog to render the desired controller?

Having the same issue here.
I was using the ā€œCaule Dark Yellowā€ theme, and now my background is white.

sorry guess you version of grep doesnā€™t support that. try:

find -name "manifest.json" | xargs grep "dns"

Good point. I also run off an SD card and I rarely use the built-in backup tool. Putting the backup on the SD card (or frankly, any drive that HA is also on) is sort of pointless. I simply copy the contents of the config directory off to my NAS as part of my regular backups. I only run the HA backup prior to an update, then immediately copy it to the NAS also. I keep a spare, high-quality SD card ready for a quick rebuild and restore, but in over 3-1/2 years, so far, I havenā€™t needed it. Of course that could change tomorrow.

How do I hide all those alarm options? I donā€™t have those enabled in my manual alarm integration

EDIT: just read above you canā€™t hide them and need to use a template alarm integration.

Btw thereā€™s a bug with code. Right now when I open the dialog and select for example to arm in Home I get asked for a code and entering any code makes it pass but when Iā€™m in the card I can choose Home and no code is asked. Mind you I donā€™t have code added to my alarm panel

How do I use the UI to set the preset mode on a fan in this release? For example, my VeSync air purifier has auto and sleep presets. I used to be able to set these via the Details tab in the fan entityā€™s dialog. Is that functionality gone now with the new dialogs for fan entities?

This is happening to me too.

If wou want it to work, check

In my xp this one works more stable then the official one.

This release fixed Verisure integrations for me.

I personally think this, and other deprecation messages would be good candidates for the repairs interface

The New selector capabilities doesnā€™t seem to be working. This is the example in the release notes.

example:
  name: Constant selector example
  selector:
    constant:
      label: Enabled
      value: true

This is the example in the selectors

boolean:
  value: true
  label: Enabled

this is what I get with no selection

I take it you read the posts above that on the matter?

Another version of Home Assistant and another accessibility problem. The new tile cards look nice, thatā€™s for sure. However, has anyone tried changing the alarm modes using a screen reader like NVDA? Unfortunately, it seems that nobody has. Additionally, thereā€™s a button without a label that opens a new card. As I mentioned last month, when it comes to WCAG compliance, Home Assistant is heading in the wrong direction. Please, test whether the new windows and views comply with WCAG and are usable with screen readers.

Additionally, after launching the alarm card, modes that should be hidden are visible. Thatā€™s all for now.

As with last month, the new version brings joy (new template capabilities) and sadness (accessibility issues) once again. The old alarm panel with buttons is accessible to screen readers, but the supposedly improved new one is NOT. Itā€™s a huge shame.

this is too bad really. it might be a specialty case but all the more important. As HA has specialists in the team for this, it might have been a glitch. Did you talk to Steve about this? He is very active and ā€˜on topā€™ of the matter. you find Steve in the contributors of Frontend Release 20230403.0 Ā· home-assistant/frontend Ā· GitHub some days ago

Have this same issue too

Update to 1.8.1.

@Drafteed did a great job on the Universal media player, but I still have a problem that my media list exhausts at 1000 entities. I have a media DB with some 130k MP3 songs neatly organized in albums. Since forever HA hasnā€™t been able to present/list more that the first 1000 albums (alphabetically sorted). Somewhere in the middle of the group beginning with the letter ā€˜Bā€™ it all stops.
Iā€™ve asked this question many times before in various forums, but never had any reactions or replies as to what could cause this or how to fix it.
Just a notice, the collection works perfect when accessed by Logitec Media Server (LMS), Madsonic and other media apps. So I donā€™t think thereā€™s a question of corrupt data.

My main concern is that they are removing the ability to use the config file for way too much

Like yeah, give us a gui, but please donā€™t remove the ability to to use the textfile, I can

git add

a textfile but not a GUI

Now I personally would have preferred json over yaml because itā€™s easier to read for me as a programmer, but I guess I have a way to ā€œbuildā€ yaml too, would just have been a lot easier to handle if it was json

I unfortunately bricked my SD card (after about 1,5 year) and I am not the only one. Your backup plan seems solid enough. Fingers crossed.
