20USD easy to install homeassistant supervised host ("haos like" with addons / dq08 tvbox / rk3528 4g ram)

Hi,

As I’m flashing a lot of DQ08 with home assistant supervised, i’ve created a very quick ready to use tutorial.

On windows 64 bit:

  • unzip tools/FactoryTool.zip on the root of your disk (example: c:\)
  • unzip the release in the same directory
  • run FactoryTool
  • clic on Firmware and select the .img file
  • clic on Restore
  • clic on Run
  • do not plug the power on the box
  • keep pushed the reset button in the AV connector
  • plug a male-male usb cable to the black port (not the blue one)
  • wait 2 seconds (windows usb sound)
  • release everything and wait for the green cell (2 minutes)
  • unplug everything, connect ethernet + DC and wait approx 12 minutes: system will install requirements (3min) then reboot and install HA (5 min) and setup HA (5 min)
  • scan your network with this
  • connect to http://<ip>:8123

You have found a better android box ? Send me one and i’ll do the port.

Hello fensoft,

HAOS or Supervised. Words have meaning, which one is it?

Thanks for Sharing! i am looking for HAOS for the Tivo Stream 4k, i have many of these since I sell IPTV services and I use them to install my App to clients, sometimes you get them on 20 bucks on amazon and I wonder if there is a way to reflash them with HAOS

I’ve read here that:

RockChip (rk3399, rk3328, rk3288, rk3228, etc) based TV Boxes are probably the best supported TV boxes currently. They have the most active developers.

Tivo Stream 4k is an amlogic (S9xx) based TV Box, sorry but i’m not working on that.
I can freely work on any rockchip box if you send me one.

I understand, and appreciate your honesty, I will look int DQ08 to be used as HA server for low cost automations. Since my main interest is to sell the Tivos as players and not as servers.

The file at his GitHub is called supervised, so its not Haos.

Well Supervised is going on the no-longer-officially-supported list.
I don’t believe this would have been supported anyway, but just wanted to point this out to anyone looking to go this direction.
It may not be stable enough to run your production system on.

Got several HA boxes running feb 2024 without any issues.
I’m also porting to a real HAOS but it may take few weeks.

You have 6 months. That’s when supervised will officially be unsupported

unsupported doesn’t mean removed from development. we’ll see then but i’m pretty confident on my side

also, supervisor is internaly used in haos so it wont disapear at the end of the 6 month, only the support

Hello,
I thought your project was great. I immediately ordered an RK3528 box and flashed it. I have a Box Labeld Greva 8k Android 13 4G DDR3 / 64G emmc and CPU RK3528 from Amazon .de.(B0C84G4M9K)

After about 20 minutes, everything was installed and working great. What I’m impressed with is the power consumption: 2.5 watts.

Of course, I didn’t back up the Android firmware. (Stupid)

Now I wanted to see if I could possibly get Wi-Fi working.

The chip is a Seekwave EA6521QF.

I saw in another forum that someone had compiled a 32-bit driver.

Is it possible to compile it for 64-bit, but I have no idea how.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Interesting to know that other box works with the same firmware. Does it have 1G ethernet or 100M like mine ?

About wifi, i’m not interested in making it works + i probably have a different wifi chip on my box.
Sorry but you’re alone for this.

Hallo,
My 1.Box 100mbit.

i have order 2. Box with RK3318 4G/64G from Ali.
Saved/Flashed with Mutitool and install Armbian / HAOS Supervised / XFCE4 for LCD Touch. Works fine
(Index of /jock/web/rk3318/)

i have order 3.Box .DQ08 from Ali. RK3528 4/64GB she have an RTL8733 WiFi Chip.
How can i save the old emmc before i flash it.

My 1. Box i have blind flashed. and works with your image . Now can only boot from sd/emmc your system but is not possible to new flash . nothing usb device when i connect with usb to pc and press reset.

Greet

Hallo,
found erase internal emmc . then go ist in maskrom mode and i can flash with usb a-a cabel and reset button.

i’ve made backup through dd only to restore android as it doesn’t need an emmc to boot from sd

Thanks… Worked a treat. Installed on a “DQ08 Pro”, and transferred across from my virtual machine onto this new server. (can shut down that power hog now)
Unfortunately I spend ages trying to get a backup of the original box in case to restore, but had many driver and imaging software issues so bit the bullet without any backup.

I look forward to the mentioned HAOS image in future.
Thanks for the development.

what’s the difference with a dq08 non pro ?

Thanks for this wonderful solution to convert a cheap ATV box into HA in Supervised mode running. Today I got my box with rk3528 chip-set. Its really so cheap that (not from price perspective) this box is not having Ethernet port, microSD Slot and only one USB Port. This got one HDMI and AV Port at the back. Tried your method to flash the non SD version of the image. By keeping the toothpick pressing the button inside the AV port, connected the “USB A to USB A cable” on the only one USB port but the system was not detecting it. What worked for me was installing Rockchip_DriverAssitant_v5.12 for my windows 11 system. You may include this as requirement in your installation steps.
I have inserted a USB to Ethernet adapter + network cable and followed the remaining steps. After spending 30 minutes the box came online with HA initial wizard.
Awaiting for your full image version of HAOS so we can flash the box with that once its ready. Thanks again for your efforts and the guide.

i’ve put the dev of HAOS image on hold. maybe this wont be necessary because armbian will support ha supervised as long as they can. i just need to switch to their installer one day (quite simple)
