It looks like Sonoff has a new hardware revision which could be some “fun” to get a working flash going. But it seems like it might still be possible?
The RM4 pro I haven’t found anything about custom firmware, so I am weary of relying on a device where I do not control the firmware.
Is there any other devices I am missing? I would prefer off the shelf if possible, but if not I might build my own sleek 433MHz transmitter for use with esphome.
I just finished a project for a low-power transmitter (powered off 2xAA’s) for a different use case (Uses an ATTINY841). I can just swap a few of the design elements and achieve the same thing with native esphome support and USB-C flashing.
@gcormier said he wanted nice aesthetics. An esp32 and a 433MHz transmitter is apparently too ugly (and also more complicated HW setup, since it needs at least wires), even if it is cheaper with easier SW setup.
I don’t see fundamental aesthetic difference between a devboard and … devboard.
But my taste is weird anyway, I like transparent enclosures for example.
I haven’t used sx1278, but I immagine the setup being more comparable to cc1101 than dumb ook transmitter.
I’m with Karosm on this.
DIY with a 433 module and print an enclosure if you care about aesthetics. I’ve been really happy with the performance of mine.
Especially if you’re going to print an enclosure with another option anyway.
The set-up is probably easier than hacking a Sonoff at least (I’ve done both). You can do it solder-free if you want.
