A better network map for zigbee2mqtt - teasing

I’m working on a better network map for zigbee2mqtt because I’m fed up with the existing one.

It lives in its own HA sidebar panel (does not replace existing z2m network page).

As a precursor I improved the network scan speed from 75s (24 routers, 2 offline) to 35s (initial) and 17s (consecutive) with an extension “networkmap_fast” (installing it will also speed up loading the network in the existing viewer). PR is here: feat: add networkmap_fast extension by omcular · Pull Request #32 · Koenkk/zigbee2mqtt-user-extensions · GitHub

Here a screenshot of the force-directed graph (no end nodes)

And here’s one with end-nodes shown and a popup on a device.

How is it different from Zigbee Map?

  • instant open from a retained map
  • scheduled background scans
  • a layout you can pin and rotate that survives scans and reloads
  • LQI-driven spring length
  • a Min LQI filter
  • device photos
  • fast scan underneath

What it doesn’t (yet) have:

  • ZHA support
  • diagnostics
  • a log viewer
  • HACS packaging
  • users

Yo… been using this since it launched. It works great and you can import a floorplan and arrange your devices to give you a really nice mesh perspective.

Package it for HACS and it will get users.
But I tried some zigbee maps that works with z2m and.. you know it is ok. But it is just a map. There is no real purpose behind it. it show connected devices and that is all.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not sh*ing on your project just saying.

It’s fine if you have no use for it, no offense taken.

For me it’s very useful to see the topology and LQIs in a graph for troubleshooting and improving the network.

Will certainly do that! Thanks for the tip!
