Add support for LIFX Ceiling US up lights

Your opinion is definitely of value, unsolicited or not.

I’ve already told the head of firmware development at LIFX that the uplight and downlight shouldd be exposed as individual “lights” via the LAN protocol to make control of them significantly easier and more flexible. Whether or not this is ever actually implemented is up to LIFX.

I’m using one in my living room alongside a chandelier, and I had to manually control the up lights through custom effects until I set up a template light. It’s a bit of a workaround, but once you define each zone clearly in YAML, it gets easier to automate. Getting the up light and down light to sync or act separately does take some trial and error with the current LIFX integration.

Hey folks!

I’m getting things ready to open a PR to start the process of updating the core LIFX integration to use lifx-async instead of aiolifx. Amongst other things, this will bring support for Ceiling up/downlights (after the initial migration is merged and released).

I am looking for brave LIFX-die hard nerd volunteers who know how to use HACS, are capable of enabling debug logging, and enjoy the bleeding edge to help me test the new integration before it gets into a GA release.

If that sounds like something you’d enjoy, please me know!

btw, this is not the same as my hass-lifx-ceiling custom component. That uses the core LIFX integration which is still based on aiolifx. This is an entirely new thing, which hopefully should just be a drop-in replacement but work better, faster, more reliably, and allow for more functionality moving forward.
