AdGuard Home Integration unavailable via WiFi when Home protection is disabled

Sometimes it’s necessary to deactivate the AdGuardHome Protection to be able to let some websites connect services (FamilyCard for example).

I have 2 switches in Home Assistant to deactivate Home Protection and Filtering.

After deactivating these services I can’t connect to Home Assistant WebUI anymore. Not via a browser, not via the companion app.

When I reactivate the services via the AdGuardHome WebUI it works again. Also, when I turn off WiFI I can connect to my Home Assistant instance via the companion to re-enable the services that way. Therefore I guess there’s something wrong with the DNS settings.

Any way this is fixable?

Thanks in advance!

Hi kimme1024,

Help at the end, but I have a speech first, so just skip it and go to the link if you choose…

Why do you want to use Adguard?
Recent Quote from user: “I don’t really understand what it does”
That’s the problem with AdGuard and Pihole.
That’s why I do not suggest anyone use it unless you understand what it does.
It provides a man-in-the-middle attack on your personal data to supposedly “help” you, but always does what people tell it and people have no idea what they are telling it to do. It has ZERO to do with security.
Result is this cry for help repeated over and over… I can’t get websites to reply & DNS broken…
If the goal is security, this does not help. If the goal is keeping the teenagers out of dark places on the net, they will find them anyway. If the goal is to get frustrated with your DNS messing up and to keep content providers from getting paid for what you use, then you are in luck, as your experience shows.

This is one experienced Man’s opinion, do with it what you will. Oh, and you may need this to get your HA talking to a real DNS server again. How to set DNS after first install

Thanks for the rant
However i’m not using it for security, teenagers or to get frustrated about my DNS.
No, i’m using it to get rid of annoying ads (what’s in a name huh) which it does excellent 99% of the time.
So maybe you didn’t read the (long) question completely or you’re just triggered by words as AdGuard or PiHole but I was trying to fix today is that 1% that didn’t work

Well if when it’s on, you cannot connect to HA and when it’s off you can, it’s a DNS problem. I provided a link to fix that.

And yes as someone who provides content these programs do annoy me BC of people getting content and not paying for it which means the content creator also is not paid. Annoying to some, payment for services rendered for others. Depends on how you look at the ads thing, doesn’t it.
