This is a very useful thread, thanks OP. Are there any other smart lock products (deadbolt or doorknob) that integrate well with HA + Zigbee2MQTT?
I hate to add what might be useless information to an already long thread, but I was following the guide posted here to add this lock to HA using the M2 Hub via Matter and something curious happened.
When I went to bind my door lock to the Aqara M2 Hub over zigbee it would fail over and over and then I remembered that my I accidentally left my zigbee2mqtt on āPermit Join Allā, so I went and looked and sure enough the lock was binding itself to my existing zigbee network via z2m instead of to the Aqara hub.
Now it says āunsupportedā in z2m, but Iāve been able to add support for other zigbee devices that z2m said werenāt supported fairly easily. Did I stumble onto something that would be useful for this device or has someone already been down this road?
[Edit] Looks like this is already known according to this thread on z2m, I just didnāt have to cut the power to my device when it started pairing for it to prefer my z2m zigbee network over the hub. Will keep following for more updates
Worked for meā¦ thanks! (M2 hub)
Still no way of connecting without using the Aqara M2 hub?
such a shame looks like a good lock.
can anyone recommend a zigbee lock like this that works with most zigbee hubs?
i got lockly locks but i am finding them to be quite buggy (read app reviews)
Following because I am also looking for a look with all these features: Apple home key, finger print, key pad (for guests), zigbee (to integrate with HA). This looked so promising but got quickly disappointed to find out that there is no z2m integrationā¦
I havenāt received my order of U100 yet, but cannāt we use HomeKit Device integration to port all HomeKit devices into HA? I have 150 devices added into HA this way.
To be fair this not āonce again.ā Itās a lock. I wouldnāt use a lock that is not encrypted. Donāt expect to be able to add it to z2m in the future either.
Just ordered this, delivery sometime later today and hope to install sometime this week without following any of the instructions/tips posted here in the forum.
If I find an easier way to get everything working, Iāll post an update and likely a link to another thread that isnāt so random or convoluted.
No. Guess locks arenāt supported (probably because of encryption, same as direct Zigbee)
I ended up with Matter integration to add U100 lock into HA. Works pretty smooth.
Could you tell me how you integrated them using Matter? I had nothing but issues and canāt seem to get events using that integration. Homekit works a little better but unreliable. I have Home Assistant Yellow btw.
I am not sure which below is critical:
I have Aqara M2 hub (also support matter)
I added both lock and hub through mobile homeassistant App, not desktop browser
Setting->Devices/Services->Matter->Add Device-> Scan matter code or put your phone close to lock/hub
IMO, the hub is 100% required to make this lock work well even with Homekit - otherwise the lock status doesnāt update unless your phone is near the door and manipulating from the phone can be very slow to respond. And of course the hub is the only way to get the lock into Home Assistant.
The issue with using a hub and Homekit is that you get two locks. One with the direct Bluetooth connection and poor status updates and slow response, and another with real-time updates and fast response over the network using the hub.
The first one is the only one with Home Key support however. Hopefully iOS17 adds Home Key over Matter by the end of the year (as outlined in the iOS 17 features page at Appleās site)
I donāt have the problem you mentioned above. I added U100 to Home directly (but I forgot Homekit or matter). With hub the connection is through Wifi.
I think matter protocol allows multiple admins (one from Home app, one from HA using Matter server).
In HA, I filter lock instance of U100 from exposing to Home app again, of course
Its interesting that nobody is considering that the Aqara Hub requires internet access at startup to work properly. Hence, even though the U100 works offline with HomeKit and Matter (Home Assistant), it wonāt do so if the Hub is restarted while being offline. I returned two locks because of this issue.
even worse and more funny, one of my U100 locks decided to power cycle my living room tv very time I lock it. I have no automation that does it, i experimented with some stuff at some point but looks like the Hub is simply not resetting itself properly, so I have a ghost automation being trigger I canāt control.
AQARA products are shit and I donāt think anyone should use them, which is unfortunate because the lock has the best overall feature set on the market.
Did you create an Aqara account in the Aqara app and set up the hub and lock first before doing anything in Home?
Please open Home, go to the Settings of your Aqara Hub, then tap on Accessories and check if the lock is there. On mine it only ever shows āSystemā its own alarm, the door lock is never listed unless the hub is added with Matter.
I canāt find any way to accomplish adding via the hub with the app in Homekit mode (no Aqara account) where Home Key works. The only way I know of that supports Home Key is to add the lock itself by scanning its code. But as I mentioned previously, this accessory is then very slow to update and only works well at close range with the phone.
Adding the lock via the Aqara app in Homekit mode doesnāt bind it to the hub and it just shows up in Apple Home as above, with poor response.
Through the hub works very well but doesnāt support Home Key or any other advanced features that brings through the Home app. You have to have two accessories as mentioned to get everything, fast response and features.
Other people confirming what Iāve said (not possible to add the lock to Home via the hub without Matter, and lock must be added without hub to use Home Key): https://www.reddit.com/r/Aqara/comments/16f11w4/u100_and_homekit/
Logs to confirm that speculation?
I havenāt had to reset the hub once, so Iām not sure where that issue would ever come into play.
As far as Aqara ābeing shitā is concerned, I have yet to see or touch a better smart lock at any price, even one that doesnāt support Home Key. It compares well even to non-smart locks, IMO. Iāve installed many dozens of Kwikset/Weiser, Schlage, Yale and others for clients, so Iāve had my hands on a lot of lock sets over the years.
Interesting because I can unplug the hub and the lock continues to work. Itās just that the experience isnāt as good as with the hub - not instant.
I guess because you have smartphone with you and you installed aqara app on it.
The lock can communicate with your phone through bluetooth.
Not sure youāre trying to be intentionally rude but you might want to tweak your communication style. Mine is not a āspeculationā, every time I lock my back door my TV turns off or on depending on current state. Thereās no automation in HA that does that job and the locks are not even connected to to HA because Homekit is too flakey and Matter doesnāt work.
The Aqara app has no logs and the only thing that stops the behavior is disconnecting power from the Aqara M2 hub so Iām pretty damn sure thatās the issue.
