Australia - Electrically Certified Hardware

When they say offline, they mean local access to devices without relying on TP-Link and Internet.
You will need to flash custom firmware on your smart plugs to enable this functionality.

Yeah I meant the ā€œLocal Onlyā€ option in the Kasa app!

Anyway, turns out that you can indeed use the Kasa app in guest mode/without logging in, as Iā€™ve just done it to add the KS115. That said, I forgot that Iā€™d added my other switches via the configuration.yaml file, so I after setting it up in the Kasa app, Iā€™ve added the KS115 in that way and now it appears in the integration.

But itā€™s not showing the power monitoring yet, so not sure how I can get that to appear! Strike that, Iā€™ve found it under ā€œAttributesā€! Now gotta see if itā€™s reporting the right numbers.

Has anyone noticed all the ā€˜Smartā€™ Christmas lights at Bunnings this past week? Wondering just how smart these are and if anyone knows if they can be managed locally?

The Lytworx canā€™t be flashed as far as I know and require cloud. Itā€™s a shame because they have some nice gear.

Previous Mirabella Genio could be flashed with Tuya-Convert, not sure if this still applies, but the ones I bought were easily opened so serial flashing may be possible.

Others have has success flashing Arlec switches etc so they may be possible too.

Just picked up a Casalife Smart down light from the delayed Aldi special from last month.

Have popped off the cover to find a WB2L module which is not ESP based so no good if you donā€™t want Tuya and cloud.

Gaz

I believe the WB2L can be replaced by a ESP device.

Thatā€™s 100% incorrect.

  1. You do not need to add your account for TPLINK Kasa to enable functionality.
  2. Access to the TP-Link devices is local polling, not via the cloud at all.
  3. Control of the device using HA will work absolutely fine without internet access.

What are you guys using to convert a standard fan to a smart one?
is BrilliantSmart Light and Fan Controller the only option?

Iā€™ve got two Sonoff iFan02ā€™s here waiting to be installed (for a cupla years now lol) - theyā€™re now well out of date, the iFan03 had a bunch of updates and new features IIRC.

If anyone has a Daikin Heat Pump they are considering smartifying I have a spare BRP072C42 wifi controller as the new heat pump I had fitted yesterday has this built in and I kept the previous controller.

Works well with the Home Assistant Daikin integration.

Note: Cora & Alira units will require an extra cable. Available online.

They go for $165 new. You can have it for half that plus shipping.

PM me if interested.

Iā€™ve got 4 x iFan03 running ESPHome. Havenā€™t had any problems and completely happy with them.
Upgraded from Luci Connect running Tasmota.

The case on the iFan03 is a little wide. A couple of them needed a bit of encouragement to fit in the fan bracket.
Also, the included remote is a bit generic and button icons not that intuitive, so needed to add some labels to the buttons to make it clear what they do, but primarily the fans are controlled through HA anyway.

It frustrate me that this thread is called ā€œAustralia - Electrically Certified Hardwareā€ but non approved devices, like Sonoff, get mentioned as being installed so often

The Brilliant controller is good. Itā€™s the same size and shape as a standard non-smart fan remote. Not sure about the ifan in this regard. As far as I know the iFan is NOT Aus certified.

I agree. I bought five Sonoff devices and they are all crap. Maybe that is why they arenā€™t certified?

Some are approved

Edit:

These look interesting.

I never even considered that! Although the thread has mutated to be a general AU discussion these days. I think people were pushing for a subforum but not sure where that ended up.

Would certainly solve the thread naming issue - could keep one dedicated to certified hardware and general discussion in othersā€¦

I joined a standard Spyda ceiling fan with an SRLTech wall controller, which is certified and could be flashed with ESPHome at the time (~2 years ago).

I am using these https://www.amazon.com.au/Approved-Smart-ZigBee-Switch-Automation/dp/B08D7BRS2Q/ref=pd_lpo_3?pd_rd_i=B08D7BRS2Q&psc=1

The latest version with the external capacitor works well. I have had a couple of instances of the lights flicking on and off by themselves but this seems to have settled down, might have been a zigbee2mqtt issue?

Ahh nice they updated those. Cheers.

Hi.
Iā€™m looking for recommendations on a powerboard that:

  1. Has individual tactile switches for each socket (quicker in case of emergency)
  2. Energy meter for each socket
  3. Restores the state of sockets after a power outage. Could probably do this programatically but it seems like a reasonable requirement OOTB.
  4. Preferably no thicker in profile than the ARLEC Bunnings variety

Smart plugs seem to fit the requirements so I donā€™t get why I canā€™t find powerboards that do.

Use case is for a reef tank. Hence the need to restore state after power outage. I have 6 x various tuya local varieties that donā€™t quite cut it.

Does something like this exist?
