Backup not working - HAOS VM running on TrueNAS

Hi guys

I recently moved over from a Pi4 to installing HAOS as a VM on TrueNAS (on a Beelink Me Mini).
Been quite a battle to get things working and for discovery of devices, etc. After solving that, I attempted to set up NAS storage for my backup location.

First it didn’t want to add anything even if I tried SMB or NFS. Then suddenly it accepted the locations in HA, but when I run the backups, I get an error saying it cannot be uploaded, and logs says the backup location is down.

Then I tried pinging the HAOS VM from the TrueNAS shell, no response, and vice versa. (doesn’t make any sense)

I tried setting up a brigde on TrueNAS, but as soon as I select to test the new settings, TrueNAS basically responds after a while, discarding my changes. The mini pc has 2 x network adapters, so not sure what I’m doing wrong with the bridge. (I’m still a noob with TrueNAS though)

Does anyone else have experience with this issue? or any suggestions/recommendations please?

Thanks in advance

@troy - I followed your guide - thanks for the great info. But I don’t have a bridge by default, do you perhaps have any suggestions please?

Ok I think I finally figured it out. Found this video on youtube.
Seems like you need to remove the “NIC To Attach” from your VM-> Device-> NIC setting.

Then you need to remove the static IP from the NIC in your TrueNAS Network settings, create a bridge, add the old NIC’s static IP to the bridge, and then Test settings.

Then when successful, you can go to the VM->Devices->NIC and then select the Bridge. Sometimes you need to repeat some of the steps in a different order.

Quite a mission, but seems to be working.
