My latest addition to my automations using these sensors, wife appreciated this one with overwhelming approval lol. “His and hers” bed runway lighting.

It’s very simple, but I love it. They turn on for whoever is home after sunset.

When I get in bed, my runway lighting turns off, when I get out of bed for late night snack runs or whatever, it comes back on. Same goes for her. If we’re both in bed obviously they’re both turned off. Then the trigger for turning the on if you get out of bed not longer triggers after sunrise/after an alarm has been dismissed and we’re both out of bed. So essentially only ever on if you get out of bed in the middle of the night. Tied our other runway lighting in the bathrooms and kitchen cabinets to it too.

i couldn’t name to many automations i use that don’t involve a bed sensor
both in bed … light off climate control changed doors looked bla bla
xyz gets out of bed will within set time frame jug turns on lights come on heating changes
the list is endless

I would like to readjust the Manuel sensor, it works really well, but it always has the status Unoccupied for 2 - 10 seconds. It’s the left sensor (see pictures). Which value should I adjust? Thank you very much. :slight_smile:

The sensors have averaging applied to ensure stability. This does mean they can be slightly delayed and will not trigger the exact moment you get into bed. That being said, you could move the trigger pressure (Left Trigger Pressure) lower, so that it registers sooner. It looks like your bed reads pretty consistently at 0% when unoccupied, so you could theoretically go as low as something like 10%, but I would stand experimenting around 50% and go do from there if it’s still not reacting fast enough.

Nice. What lights did you use for that? I have a Govee RGBIC strip around our bed, but control of segments is limited in HA. I’ve been contemplating replacing them with a WLED controller and a different set of lights.

Would this sensor work for me? I’d like to buy them but I’m a little skeptical it would work.

Is it rigid under the fabric, or are there slats? The upcoming box springs mount kit would probably work nicely here. Without that, I don’t think it’s going to work.

Looks very cool, though i dont see any mention on functionality regarding individual sprung slats. i have a king size bed with a set up like this:


(the outer frame of these is made of metal, the slats are wood)

The main unit won’t be able to mount in the center, and likely won’t fit in the space between the slats. It does come with 8-inch extension wires though. Those would allow you to mount the main unit under the slats or on the side of the center rail and run the extension wires to the sensor strips mounted on top of the slats.

Our king size bed is just like that (apart from the doubled up slats :thinking: and albeit we have more space in the centre - okay, maybe not “just like that” :laughing:) and the sensors work really well. I used the included extension wires to ensure the sensors are in the middle of our chosen slats.

This looks fantastic, very similar to what I was planning to cook together, though I am concerned that the unit will get damaged when I flip or rotate my fairly heavy latex foam mattress, as recommended by the maker.

I was planning on setting up an array of load sensors under individual slats, in the hope of also being able to distinguish between someone sitting up in bed versus lying down.

How difficult would it be to connect alternate weight sensors to this device?

It’s recommended that mattress movements be carried out my 2 people as to not drag the mattress across the sensors and their connections.

FSR sensor strips range in resistance from over 10Mohm (no force applied) all the way down to a few hundred ohms (max force applied). Assuming you’re talking about loads cells, they have a much smaller swing in resistance and would not be a drop in replacement for this product.

Even with 2 people, dragging my mattress is the only option for flipping it over. It’s really heavy. The load cells I have are three wire connectors, too. Doesn’t sound workable.

@stephenp93 - I noticed the kit for a non-slatted base doesn’t have a price yet. I’m interested in the sensor for our bed but was looking for a price and a little feedback from someone that’s tested the new mount?

There will be slightly different kits for the different sized beds. I estimate it’ll be $5-$10 for the add-on. I’m happy to answer any questions you have.

Thanks! I’ve been waiting because I didn’t want to get a new toy and have to wait until the mounting kit was available, so have been kind of biding my time until I can order both at once.
