Can't access HA when wifi is up but internet connection is down

We had an internet outage today. HA isn’t accessable via the companion app through nabu casa. I know my HA IP address but can’t access it via a web brower either. I know HA can and should be accessable on wifi even if the internet is down (thats the point of having things local) …
What am i missing?

The port number?

Its the IP then :8123

Justin, what do you get when you ping your HA IP address?

in the app in settings click companion app and configure your internal connection URL to http://: i.e. http://192.168.0.240:8123

Where do I find that?

100% loss of packets

Is your router/modem out of business and providing your network with IP addresses?
Can you see what IP address your HA is using?
How are you running HA?

I was using an app called Fing. It shows IP addressed for my phone, HA, and a printer but none of my lights, switches, etc.

what’s your setup?

There have been some threads about a certain brand of routers where the WiFi is not working when the internet is down.
I can’t remember the solution, but a guess would be to update the router firmware first.

Are they WiFi?

If you have the IP of your Home Assistant server, use that. Mune is 192.168.1.57, so my dashboard is acessible at
http://192.168.1.57:8123
Or,
http://homeassistant.local:8123

In fact, if you ping homeassistant.local /4, you should get your server’s IP address.

(Note, I maned my server “home” so that I wouldn’t have to type so much).

C:\Users\steve>ping home.local /4

Can you connect it to a monitor so you get to see the current IP?

Also: if you ask for help it might speed up the process if you reply to the questions to troubleshoot your issue.

Nick

I’m not sure what you mean by 'out of business" .

The Fing app does show my HA with its IP Address.

When i try to access the IP or the IP:8123 on chrome on my phone - it does not load

The Fing app shows a total loss of packets when i try to ping the IP.

All this doesn’t make sense. (to me at least)

So your internet/network is back to it’s working state?
I’m aware of the existence of Fing but don’t know it’s functions.
Are you 100% sure that the IP address is from you HA?

Do you have another system (desktop/laptop) to test?
Make sure you use http://ip_address_of_your_HA:8123

Also this:

If you don’t get a reply from a host, you surely will not be able to connect to a service running on it!

Put a keyboard and a monitor on the HA host and make the tests from there instead.
Ping the router from there.
Ping other devices from there.

Out of curiosity, just thought about something: they are using a RPi4, which has WiFi.
Is WiFi enabled in HAOS by default?

Idk id this helps.

I don’t have a keyboard or monitor to hook up to the Pi.

I have tried using my moblile hotspot to get the computer to access HA via the IP but no luck…
