"Car Assistant" OBD-II Device for Vehicle Monitoring

Hi everyone,

I believe it would make sense to create a “Car Assistant” device for Home Assistant, like an OBD-II device that connects to the vehicle. This device could provide various types of vehicle data, depending on the car’s capabilities, such as:

  • Geolocation
  • Engine start/stop notifications
  • Activity logs (e.g., trips)
  • Diagnostics and vehicle issues

It could be connected via mobile internet or, if available, through the vehicle’s built-in connectivity. Alternatively, a Bluetooth connection to a mobile device or the car’s radio could be used to bridge the connection to Home Assistant.

There are several devices available on the market that already offer these features, but I would love to see them integrated directly into Home Assistant.

Examples of devices that offer similar functionalities:

  • Movistar Car
  • ELM327
  • ThinkOBD

Thank you for considering this request, and I believe it would be a valuable addition to the Home Assistant ecosystem!

Perhaps this does fit for you ?

They are working on a 2nd device with updated featureset, too.
