China Manufactured Fan - Integrate to HA

Wondering if anyone can help suggest how to go about integrating with this remote for a ceiling fan bought from China. Is this an RF 433 Mhz and is there a method to determine the codes and buy some type of blaster to put in the room to send the signals from WiFi.

Any direction would be appreciated as the board looks rather simple, but not really much marking on the chips. Is there an easy way to build something to capture and breakdown the codes?

I have 6 of these that Iā€™m converting off of. Thereā€™s nothing wrong with them, Iā€™m just moving onto something with more control. The devices are compatible with the Local Tuya App. Iā€™m sure itā€™s compatible with the cloud tuya but I can specifically vouch for this device in the Local Tuya App.

Hereā€™s the link to the device: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RYT7J8S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

@Sergeantpup Thank you as that was fast. One of the images pretty much looks like our fan, but guess we didnā€™t get the WiFi version. $50 is not too bad and I do use the Local Tuya App integration for some other devices. What are you converting to or do you mean you are getting away from the Fan itself. Iā€™d be interested in what other approach you have in mind. Right now I only have the one.

A picture is worth 1000 words and helped me immediately know what it was for. It was very easy for me to say ā€œooh, I know that!ā€

I bought these a few years ago when I came off the Hunter bluetooth fan controllers (which were awful) because my house had more fans than could be configured on different signals. The box will be up in the collar of the fan. Youā€™ll need to cut the power and restore it to see if the box is hooked up and it will start showing itā€™s wifi. If you restore power and the light comes on from an off state, thatā€™s a good indicator itā€™s hooked up.

I found the devices in question around 2019 and they were much cheaper back then. I was actually convinced there was no way they would work for being so cheap. Because of the shipping/time from China and made the leap to go all in and I ordered 6 at once praying they would work but if they didnā€™t I wouldnā€™t be out a lot of money.

Much to my surprise, when they came in they worked great. high med low, light on/off, tuya app control. There is a weird clicking sound when it changes speeds, itā€™s kindof annoying but not as annoying as not having a remote or voice control over a ceiling fan. Theyā€™ve worked fine for a few years.

Cut to a few weeks ago, it sounded like the bearings were about to go on the fan in my bedroom and that simply wonā€™t do. I recently purchased a hunter fan that had wifi built in. It turned out to be as bad as all the other hunter fan remote control systems. UNBELIEVABLY fickle to get into HA and if you donā€™t have an Apple device, I still donā€™t know how getting it into HA is even possible. So I knew, Home Depot was no longer a place I could purchase a ā€˜goodā€™ smart ceiling fan.

I went to amazon hoping I could score something that integrated with tuya (because my current fans were already on Tuya). I found this fan with a coupon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B098HH1MJ1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

I was apprehensious that this could be a good solution. Long story short, Iā€™ve already bought two more. The fan, while smaller in diameter than my last fan, goes WAY faster. I love ceiling fans and I canā€™t stand to have this fan at 100%. It has 10 levels of fan control 10%, 20%, 90%, etc. It has forward and reverse from the app or the remote (which actually comes more in handy than youā€™d think). It has two LED lights that are dimmable and super bright. 1 is cool white, 1 is warm white. The lighting fixture is just a flat LED panel so the fan doesnā€™t sit as low as a normal fan with a light kit.

Inspecting the devices themselves, Iā€™m going to go on a limb and say that the device I am leaving was probably the generational predecessor of the guts in the fan that I just bought. They work similarly in the app but one is clearly more advanced and ā€˜feelsā€™ newer.

I have been thrilled with these 3 new fans with new Tuya parts inside. If youā€™re looking for a cheap, right now solution, getting a new box if you donā€™t have one sounds like a great option but if buying a new fan isnā€™t out of the question for more control, then there are better fan controls out there that hook up to HA.

Great details and a good journey. My wife bought this one recently when we moved and she likes it as it is a chandelier, but the blades retract and hide when it stops spinningā€¦ they are clear and just kind of cool. The only pain is that it is the RF control and so Iā€™ve been looking at a way to get an RF hub and discover the codes, but to be honest the one you showed would be easy. I already wired it in with the RF box and it looks just like the WiFi one so should be easy switch. The kit you found is a dual, but I found a single as well so should be okā€¦ although maybe a spare is worth having.
Have a couple of other rooms and so another fan might be in my future and the one you showed looks and sounds quite niceā€¦ daughters room might be getting an upgrade soon.

If youā€™d like to sell off one or more of those old WiFi modules then let me know, but guessing they will find a new home with the old fan. I think that Iā€™ll look at ordering one of those as it does look like a simple enough integration/setup and with the summer coming here it will be needed. Just made my fireplace smart on the weekend, so ā€œHey Google, Flame Onā€ finally became a reality

oh I forgot to mention that. You can get rf control with a bond. I have one from when I had the bluetooth fans and just unplugged it because I upgraded my garage fan. Certainly not the best solution but if you had one laying around, it does the RF blasting for you. I have a fan kit I can send you now that you mention it. Iā€™ll be making the device swap in my office in the next few days. We can DM details and I can send it to you. It will be a control unit thatā€™s compatible with any 3 speed/light fan and will have a remote paired to it. It will be wiped from my Tuya API because I will use the slot for my new fan.

I just looked on aliexpress and wonder what you think of thisā€¦ seems to be the same one you found on Amazon. Iā€™m in Ontario, Canada. I guess that is one of the WiFi ones. I donā€™t have the bond you speak about. I do recall looking at the Hunter fans at Home Depot here many times and based on your comments earlier Iā€™m very glad I never took the plunge. I seem to have been thinking of just building my own, but one of these built in WiFi controllers seems an easy step to get it enabled.

Speaking of journeys that arenā€™t easy. Getting Tuya devices into HA is a long and winding process; However, itā€™s heavily documented and video tutorialed, I can vouch for the steps, and I promise itā€™s worth it in the end.

Once you have it set up, adding ANY tuya devices in the future becomes just a few clicks. Thereā€™s some preliminary work youā€™ll need to do before you can think about putting a tuya fan in HA and this video is a great start to finish step by step guide: HOW TO - Setup Local Tuya in Home Assistant - YouTube I am very familiar with the process and the process of configuring the fan correctly in HA which can be tricky.

Thatā€™d be the one. I guarantee it. Same exact controls in the app.

@Sergeantpup I finally got around to switching my Fan control to the Wifi enabled and I did get it setup under LocalTuya, but I can only seem to get it with the on/off for the fan. I put the light on a standard dimming switch, but would like to have the 3 speed control like the remote. Do you by chance recall how you had it setup in a Dashboard card? My daughter got one the same with a blue tooth speaker, but they ordered the standard RF controller, so likely Iā€™ll be switching another this year

Does yours look like this?

Here is current settings

Just having the one 1: Master_Bedroom_Fan seems strange as Iā€™d have thought Iā€™d have the light and fanā€¦ so not sure if this is why my entities are not showing correct.
@Sergeantpup
No 3(value: 2) available for mine.

Please fill out the details for entity with DP 1 with type fan. All settings except for ID can be changed from the Options page later.

On the fan control speed dps 3 its value is 1. That means its currently detecting the fan is set to low. Use the remote to change the fan to medium and when you rerun the configuration it will say 2. Its not important, Iā€™m just telling you thats what it means. Its also something you can use to determine if tuya is correctly detecting the fan state.

Maybe try leaving the fan direction and occilation blank if it doesnā€™t have that (like mine). The rest of your settings look correct.

I went back and revisited all my settings and they look like yours

I was going to try blank, but it is a drop-downā€¦ Iā€™ll play with it a bit and try to check that 3(value: 2)ā€¦ makes sense. I think I might have rushed when adding the first time and might have stopped it before other entities, so trying to see how to fully remove from the Tuya online and then add again all overā€¦ canā€™t find an easy way to remove it in HA to rediscover.

Works great in Tuya app. So just need to figure out how to get speed control in HA

Thats the only way I know to do it. Once you get it set right it will be solid going forward.

Digging deeper I found this under the entities

The Speed here is a slider which is 0 - 100%. Not sure what Oscillate is for and I guess that i can potentially reverse it, but none of these were exposed as entities for me to control. Might need to go on the discord channel and see if anyone can help me to either set them up or rediscover this local tuya device without removing the entire local tuya.

Thanks for your help today.

Just noticed that if I click on the entity in my dashboard then I get the same card that pops up, so now I need to figure out how to put the speed selections into 3 steps in the UI. Maybe 0%, 33%, 66% and 100% would be same as OFF, Low, Med, Highā€¦

its definitely the settings. I can tell by looking at it.

First, speed being a slider shouldnā€™t be a deal breaker as long as itā€™s giving you only 3 speeds (33, 66, and 100). If itā€™s giving you more than 3 selections when you click it, let me know.

Your fan doesnā€™t oscillate so this setting is incorrect
Your fan doesnā€™t do directions by remote (just by the switch on the fan) so this setting is incorrect

You can remove the fan from local tuya by going to Devices & Services>integrations>find local tuya>click configure>click edit device>select the correct device to delete>on the first page thereā€™s checkboxes for your fan that say uncheck to remove. then submit through all the menus (this has changed since I set mine up)
