Connect speaker to Voice Assistant PE

Hello.
I tried to connect a JBL Speaker to Voice Assistant PE using a 3.5 mm jack plug to 3.5 mm jack plug cable.
This works so far BUT in the background you hear every LED blinking of the VA PE as a scratching sound in the speaker, the sound is rushing especially when no audio is active.
Can someone confim this?
Or am I using a too cheap 3.5 mm jack plug?

I haven’t tried plugging mine into an external speaker yet but I did try to run it off of an under-powered power adapter the first time. While it was underpowered the speaker was popping and clicking in time with the LEDs. I would make sure everything is getting enough power first. Hopefully someone else can test theirs, but if not next week I’ll grab a pair of speakers to plug in and test also.

I have a NUX Mighty Lite. Connected via 3.5mm jack. It is separately powered and have not heard any scratching. I have also tried my Sony headphones and these are also working well. There’s only a rushing (more of a whooshing sound, this is a sound effect by design I believe)sound if I unplug/ plug into the 3.5mm socket.

Connection problem in the 3.5mm jack/socket. Perhaps the jack is not seated all the way?

Ok, I tried my Headphones now, this is clear and there are no scratsching sounds.
So I really have to look for a better quality 3.5mm cable.
I am considering to buy a WiFi oder Zigbee Speaker to output the Voice Assistant there. Does this make sense? Can I select a WiFi Speaker for Voice Assistant instaed of connecting it with a 3.5 mm cable?

I am not sure re: output to WiFi speaker?

I presume there would need to be a connection to your HA voice Preview Edition device for responses from assist if that is what you are using? You can certainly output sound/ music to any supported device via music assistant but not sure how you would choose to output responses from assist to a WiFi speaker? Anything is possible and perhaps I have not seen an option for this.

Having said that there is a speaker option in “Piper” mine is set to 0 but not sure what this option does.

I have asked a similar question regarding connecting a HA Voice PE device to a Bluetooth speaker but not sure if this is possible or stable on esp32 devices as I haven’t had response so far.

Perhaps your scenario is a feature request? Unless some else can tell us if there is away to output sound destined for your HA voice PE device to a different, seperate WiFi speaker.

Yes, I don´t care if I use a bluetooth spaeker connected vis bluetooth to Voice Assistat PE or a WiFi speaker.
Both would be ok for me.
But first I´ll try to buy a good quality 3.5 mm plug cable and test if the wired connection works.

It was my poor cable.
With a new cable the connection is perfect and I have much better sound with a small JBL speaker, connected via 3.5 mm plugs.

Good to hear. Beats buying a new speaker. The rushing sound, implied it was disconnecting.

Anybody know if the audio on the 3.5mm jack is Line Out or already amplified?
If amplified, how much power? Can’t find any info on this…
