Does anyone know how to use the Aeotec z wave stick recovery tool and/or read chinese?

So because of this whole kerfuffle, suffice it to say my old z stick is “dead”. Luckily, I had the forethought to make a backup of it using Aeotecs recovery tool. Unfortunately, they don’t offer instructions on how to actually do the whole recovery part of it so the backsup itself is fairly useless.

Anyone have any idea how to go about doing it, and /or are able to read chinese and help me figure it out? Im in desperate need of this otherwise its going to take me a really long time to add all my devices again…

Did you try Google translate? I was just using the augmented reality version today with my camera and some food from the Chinese store and was pretty impressed!

Oh whoah, didnt even realize they had an app taht did that. thanks!

I forgot about it myself until I was watching a YouTube video where I guy pulled his phone out and used on a Chinese MRE (military ready to eat ration). It blew me away so I started going around the house looking at all my Chinese food store purchases…

It works with standard Chinese fonts like those used in textual contexts; paragraphs, titles, etc. It doesn’t work on stylized kana like brand names and logos though.

I don’t quite know how to read chinese, but i am a bit familiar with the tool. When you’ve created the backup it generates a BIN file which i believe is the part that you are stuck at (Read Eeprom button will generate the BIN file).

Read Eeprom is the button used to backup the Z-Stick

Write Eeprom is the button used to restore the Z-Stick to a new one which is what you need.

These should be some very brief instructions on using the tool:

  1. Connect Z-Stick to backup tool
  2. Click on “Read Settings”
  3. Click on “Write Eeprom” (As per programming lingo goes, Write is to send data and overwrite it)
  4. A new window will pop-up, look for the BIN file that you saved from the last time.
  5. Then click on OPEN or just double click the file (your preference)
  6. The Blue bar will start moving, so run around, have a drink, eat some food. This will take roughly 5ish minutes.
  7. When the restore is done, unplug the Z-Stick for 2-5 seconds, then plug it back in.

Enjoy your newfound restored network on another Z-Stick. I believe this only works with the Z-Stick Gen5 here.

We’ve just updated a new article for back and restoring using the Z-Stick Gen5 backup tool: https://aeotec.freshdesk.com/solution/articles/6000167023-how-to-use-z-stick-gen5-backup-tool-backup-and-restore-
