Drayton Wiser Home Assistant Integration

One suggestion to make the Wiser plug more versatile as its use at the moment is quite limited.

The Wiser plug cannot be turned on or off by a TRV or the Room Thermostat. Unless I have missed something it can only be turned on or off by using a Schedule.

We have a fan radiator in our living room that doesn’t use a TRV, and a normal radiator that is fitted with a Wiser TRV. You can get also get them to fit in the kick space under kitchen units. Water always flows through it’s heat exchanger when the heating circulation pump is on. It uses a built in thermostat to turn it’s fan on and off to blow air through the heat exchanger. I was hoping to use a Wiser plug, controlled by either a TRV or a Room Thermostat, in place of it’s built in thermostat to turn the fan on and off but it isn’t possible. So currently there is no easy way for it to be controlled by the Wiser system. To get round it I have to set it’s thermostat slightly lower than the TRV temperature so it turns off first, which isn’t ideal as it is at the opposite end of the room to the radiator with the TRV.

Maybe https://wiser.draytoncontrols.co.uk/electrical-heat-switch-and-remote-floor-temperature-sensor will satisfy your use case?

This is where the magic of our integration comes into life

I haven’t tried this but the integration we’ve built allows control of the smartplug (on/off), additionally you can query the state of the iTRV, ie is it heating or not, by looking at the hvac_action attribute. A relatively simple HA automation that says, When hvac_action changes to idle (ie off) then turn the plug off, and vice versa.

Ooo this is quite nice. Im looking to install UFH in my new extension…

I’ll be honest Ive never considered upgrading my iTRVs firmware, i thought it was done via zigbee…

It is, transparently in the background.

There are options for hydronic and electric UFH available for Wiser in the UK now.

yeah i saw those straight after I posted … Currently I only have radiators…

Quite like the electrical heat switch but presumably for a towel rail in a bathroom you’d need its own room stat? Is the room stat good for a potentially humid environment and even if it is it’s a significant extra cost, again a simpler non display stat would be better.

If you are all water based maybe https://wiser.draytoncontrols.co.uk/underfloor-heating-controller will help? Electric then https://wiser.draytoncontrols.co.uk/electrical-heat-switch-and-remote-floor-temperature-sensor.

The switch is IP44 rated and is safe in moist environments like bathrooms (away from direct water ingress), the room thermostat is IP20 so recommended for outside of areas where moisture can build up in any significant way.

I think you actually need one of these:

I am looking at this as a possble way to control the immersion heater in the hot water tank, in case of a problem with the boiler. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be available in the UK anywhere. The only place I have found to get it is from a French website:

I don’t know if anyone in this thread is from France and is able to vouch for the reputability of this website? I was thinking of buying/importing one until the disconnection problems with the hub started, so am holding off for now while I investigate that further. I assume it works with the UK Wiser hub. Maybe @jamiebennett could confirm? I suspect it will be a case of yes, but it’s not supported, which would be fine. It’s Zigbee anyway, so I could always connect it through Zigbee2MQTT.

This is the same heat switch Jamie posted above. Just fyi, this is already integrated into the integration along with the UFH controller Angelo is excited about, as we had help from some people who already had these.

They may need improvements as i dont have them to know what is needed but should at least work ootb.

Ah. I didn’t realise that was the exact same thing. OK, good to know it works. Does anyone know anywhere you can buy one in the UK?

Actually not to worry. Now I’m searching on the correct name (as it’s referred to in the UK), I found it here:

Carl, this is basically a switch so you could use any temp sensor and have an automation in HA manage it. Not as slick as being fully integrated into Wiser with schedules but would work. Thinking about it, you could prob create a schedule ( as you can create many schedules and not assign them to anything) in Wiser for it and (maybe with a couple of mods to the integration), use your seperate temp/hum sensor and a schedule to control it with an automation.

That’s an option, although keeping it fully integrated with Wiser makes things easier if you move house and the new owner wants to use it. I’m not sure leaving them with HA would work.

The heat switch can be used with a sensor (typically a wired floor temperature sensor) so will track to the temperature reported from that along with a thermostat which sets the desired temperature. This is fully integrated with Wiser, schedules, moments, etc.

Regarding domadoo no problem, you have also domomat .

On the other hand, the control module actuator for electric radiator zigbee had been designed for radiator, my last information ( I met a french Schneider Electric guy last week) is that an actuator for the water heater immersion heater should be released in early 2023 ( I’m waiting this device too)

Thanks. That’s good to know. Maybe I should hold out then. Do you know anything of what the differences are? Surely it’s just a 16A rated relay, which I would think would work fine with an immersion heater.

I think that it would, I use these heating actuators, they work with climate, roomstat…
The new modules should work autonomously like smartplugs. It will be then fully integrated with Wiser, schedules, moments, etc.

Thanks for the reply. I hadn’t seen the Wiser Electrical Heat Switch before. I assume it must have been released recently as it wasn’t on the Wiser website last time I looked. It does appear to do what I need, although it is over rated for my requirement as the fan in the fan radiator only draws less than 1 amp, which is probably why it’s a bit expensive.
