My Energy Distribution Card is reporting incorrect data. Here’s the card first:
Energy usage from the grid is coming from the Emporia Energy Vue integration, and it shows the correct value. Here is a graph of today’s usage thus far:
Energy generation is coming from the SolarEdge integration, and it ALSO shows the correct value. Here is my graph from today as of now:
So, with everything correct, why is it wrong? It you look at the individual graphs, you’ll see that we have generated 52kWh from solar today and have used 41kWh. This should show a net flow TO the grid of 11kWh. Instead, the Energy Dashboard is adding the values together to show that the HOME is using 93kWh, which is incorrect. The home is using 41kWh thus far today, not 93.
I believe the error stems from one core assumption – the energy dashboard is likely assuming that the solar production connection point is INSIDE OF the primary electrical panel (and usage meter), in which case these totals would be correct. In our case, though, we have a backup generator with auto-transfer switch, so the solar must be connected OUTSIDE of the primary panel. Essentially, this gives a connection series of Utility → Meter → Solar Inverter → Generator/ATS → Primary Panel. Our Emporia is sampling energy usage at the primary panel – getting the CT’s pushed out to just inside the meter would be prohibitively dangerous.
I see no way in the Energy Dashboard configuration screen to specify the location of the solar power feed. Can this be set manually, and if so, how? If it cannot be set yet, is there any way to add this as an enhancement request?
