Feedback for forums upgrade

It's a pinned post.

The post is pinned, so it stays?

yeah but why. as if were spammed with scam mails..
wait.... I just clicked the pin in that message header, and now it's gone....

I wasnt aware we could do things like that.
problem solved though, so all good

I was today years old when I found out you can unpin pinned threads. Cheers @Mariusthvdb

Go to the bottom, change it from watching to something else and it will stop pinging you as well.

Hello,
I’m pretty sure that in previous version of the forum, indicator of new notifications (the one shown on my profile icon, in top-right corner) was shown until I dismiss them all by looking at particular category (you know, new posts, new likes, new pms etc)

Now, the indicator disappears from the profile icon immediately after checking the first message, regardless there are still unread notifications (from other categories).
So I can easily miss pm after checking recent reaction first.
Am I wrong?

Nope, I believe you are correct. I’ll get it added to the list of things that I need to investigate. The indicator does go away, but the items you haven’t clicked on remain highlighted as “unread” (at least for me). I can understand how that’s not an ideal experience, though.

Just a heads up for the rest of this thread (and any readers who come by this) - I am off (mostly unexpectedly) for the next two weeks as I move from the US to the Netherlands. Adjustments will be delayed because of this. But I am in the process of hiring a Community Associate who will help me with other tasks and I should be able to get things smoothed out here through the end of June and early July.

I’m back!! :tada:

I’m doing some incremental changes today as I mess around with some settings. I changed the Like icon to a thumbs-up and it seems to be working as intended now?

On maxym’s post I did a Like which did the thumbs up correctly, then I did a heart and rocket reaction which changed the reaction button the respective emoji but also put it to the left of the post pane.

The only thing I can’t seem to change is the color when you do a thumbs up? It’s still showing as red. I’m trying to see how I can adjust that and will update this comment once I find out how to do that.

Thanks for trying the thumbs up fix, and good luck with your new home. That's a big move!

I don't think that changing the heart to thumbs up is a solution though. On other forums this works as expected, and the two emoji have subtly different meanings which I like. I've not seen any using the thumbs up as default.

There seems to be any issue there that I've not seen on any other Discourse forum and I use several, one every day until a few months ago (now I'm here every day instead ).

I’m seeing it work properly on my side.

I haven't tried responding with thumbs up or other emoji, so don't know how the behaviour has changed.

But even if choosing either thumbs up or heart now works, having thumbs up as the default isn't normal and you shouldn't need to do that to get the correct behaviour - at least I've not yet seen that on any other Discourse forum (nor the odd behaviour).

So I'm saying this is a bit of a hack, that I personally prefer heart as default, and the real issue is probably something else.

Ah, I see, it is preference.

Heart tends to lean more into feelings instead of agreement, which was the point I was trying to shift. We are, after all, a technical community. But I understand now!

Maybe the solution is to move the thumbs up emoji itself to the second option. Let me have others weigh in here before I decide.

I removed the excerpt from the pinned posts. I don’t know if I like this or not yet. I’d like them to be distinguished still…

If you go to the Topics page, does anyone else have an opinion on the space it frees up? I thought someone in here (maybe @Mariusthvdb???) complained of this but now I can’t find the post. :upside_down_face:

EDIT: …looks kinda nice on mobile though. I have different options for desktop and mobile, so I can have one enabled and the other not if people like that, too.

EDIT 2: Just because I don’t want to add another post here from myself… I’m thinking I might do a poll thread on a few visual changes that I want to make, including removing the Latest from the Categories page (since there doesn’t seem to be any value from that panel anymore) and potentially swapping the theme… Open to opinions on this as well.

Is this one still in the queue?

Haha, yes, I was literally just looking at this one!

Oddly enough…I don’t have this problem on the Orion browser on iOS (edit: doesn’t happen on Safari, either). Are you also on Android & Firefox, like @luxia noted?

I’m on current iOS and have the forum saved on homepage (PWA-like?). Must be Safari.

ohohohoooo okay, lemme set that up.

Edit: Yep, definitely the culprit for iOS at least. Let me see if I can find some others reporting this bug now that I know the specifics.

Edit 2: Found a possible solution! Asking Marcos to try to adjust the setting for me.

Looks like changing mind in reactions is not allowed too often. :upside_down_face:

Maybe! I may be remembering the feedback about the lack of tooltip on the Categories page for the latest topics, too…

The notes I have saved from Past Missy are not as helpful as I would like them to be. :joy:
