Hi there,
I’ve been using home assistant and ESP home for a couple of months now.
Loving ESP home and I’ve got a number of different devices working with it in my house so far.
I had some sonoff M5 smart switches and decided I wanted to add esphome on there but then realised that the matter versions of this switch have a locked bootloader due to it being a matter certification requirement.
I noticed that someone in this thread had suggested just swapping out the chip for one that isn’t locked.
So I picked up a few chips from aliexpress and have switched out the locked chip for a new one.
After double checking that my soldering job was good, I’ve attempted to flash ESP home to the switch using the usual method with an FTDI adapter attached to the RX, TX, GND and 3.3V with the boot pad pulled to ground.
I can connect to the FTDI adapter but when I try and push the firmware to the device it just hangs while connecting.
What Im thinking at this point is that maybe as they are brand new chips from the factory I need to maybe flash a bootloader to the ESP before I can flash the ESPHome firmware.
Has anyone done anything similar to this before and can confirm if I need to change the bootloader or should it just work after swapping the chip?
