Fresh Install PI5 From Ameridroid Connection Refused

Hello,

This is my first home assistant installation. I’ve just received Home Assistant yellow with the PI5, which supposedly had Home Assistant pre-installed already on it. I have the version that requires the power brick and not POE.

I’ve plugged in the yellow, added my ethernet and I’m always seeing “This site cannot be reached” with “ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED”.

I’ve tried to follow other instructions with no avail, but here is what I’ve tried so far.
1 - Power LED is red, and the yellow LED appears to be blinking in the “heartbeat” mode, meaning I would expect that it HA is installed? That’s at least what some of the documentation says.

2 - Both the http://homeassistant.local:8123, and the local IP assigned by my router have the same error above.

3 - Both my PC and my HA yellow are on the same ethernet, and are both coming from the same splitter.

4 - Following the instructions here (Troubleshooting installation problems - Home Assistant), I next tried to access the serial console, but I stopped when in device manager, the USBA (PC) to USB C (HA Yellow) connection shows up as “CP2012N USB to UART Bridge Controller” in the “Other devices” section of device manager, instead of showing up as a COM Port.

5 - Continuniing on #4, I opened up the HA to double check the JP1 was set to UART and it was, and I’m still seeing the same.

6 - I’m using Nest Wifi Pro as my router.

At this point my googling around, and checking the forums got me to this point and I’m stuck, so I figured I’d reach out to the larger community.

Let me know if a particular picture/screenshot would be helpful.

Thanks in advance,
Brien

Hello! Is your HA Yellow getting Internet connection? Can you check if your Router has assigned an IP address to it? If homeassistant.local:8123 does not work you should be able to access via IP address, for example 192.168.1.15:8123

We have seen issues with customers having Nest WiFi Routers where the Router is not providing an IP to the unit, or simply refusing the conneciton.

Update: I just noted that your Router is providing an IP address for Home Assistant but is still not working. That is strange as the LED’s indicate that the unit is booting into HA Correctly and if it was not, then your Network would not assign an IP address. If you are not able to get this working please contact us at [email protected]

Maybe this can bring some insight? https://www.reddit.com/r/homeassistant/comments/ot2msm/cant_login_to_home_assistant_after_installing/

Posting my reply from the similar chain here for transparency:

Yes I’m seeing exactly what you described when accessing port 4357.

I also confirmed with tnc in PowerShell that on port 8123 the PingSucceeded = true, but the TcpTestSuceeded = False

Should I just follow the HA OS installation instructions outlined here? (My example is the HA Yellow with CM5)

Is there anything else that I need to do to wipe the current installation of HA OS prior to running those instructions?

Yes, you will need to install RPi boot and use an USB-C to get the eMMC on the CM5 detected by your computer. If you are able to do that I would recommend to erase the eMMC and flash the NVMe with the HA Yellow image if possible.

If after doing that, you still cannot access port :8123 but port :4357 works, something might be blocking the access to the port.

Closing the loop. I was successfully able to install HA OS after following the fresh install instructions here:
