Hello, I have just read that Gigaset Smart Home is insolvent and will discontinue the cloud service from March 29th.
That probably means the end for the HA integration, right?
I am afraid so ā¦ time to look for a solution that is working via local API access and works with home assistant as I did not see this coming to be honest.
Yes that is not great news, my installation is remote so canāt change it easily, would be interested if there is a work around for this without throwing everything away. I thought Gigaset was a Siemens company, they do seem to be completely useless. Last year they upgraded software and it required me to go to France to reset the hub, now this. I should just replace with a local ha pi and new sensors I guess. Iām sure with the creative folks on ha someone will have a solution to this?
In 4 days, on March 29 all Gigaset Elements āSmartā Home users will have a non functionning system and start looking for a solution. Your plugin seems today to be the only effort in connecting to the Elements without using the app so you are of course the greatest hope.
Did you analyse the connection logs of the Elements base? Would it not be a matter of finding the URL / IP itās connecting to, rerouting that URL / IP to a local address and then using parts of your plugin to act on the message?
Same here, BaseStation, 2 Sensors (Door/Window) and most important 3 relatively new Outdoor Cameras. A shame when this would mean end-of-life
Here is a good start of hacking the hardware: https://osmocom.org/projects/misc-dect-hacks/wiki/Gigaset_Elements_Base
Letās hope someone figures this out as I lack both time and knowledge to turn this into a locally operated setup
I will move to Zigbee Sensors from IKEA with Zigbee Siren from AliExpress. I will keep Gigaset components for some months, in case of. i got them almost ten years ago with some batteriesā¦ i can switch
Itās pathetic that they stopped cloud services on such a short notice. The sensors, especially the smart doorbell, used to be cool: Easy to install, great quality. But cloud-basing is like hand-cuffing yourself.
So what to do with ten thousands of great smart doorbells? They worked on almost any conventional chime (so no need to adapt to new ring tones).
My idea is to pimp-up the camera, very much in the same line of building a new one, follwing i. e. this description Privacy friendly ESP32 smart doorbell with Home Assistant local integration .
What would be your immediate thought: doable? Anybody interested to give it a try?
As for myself, this would be a new territory so Iād feel more comfortable joining someone. I believe its worth a try as with 20 USD one would get a 200 USD camera and also we could avoid a lot of trash.
Hi, is anyone trying to replicate the online service that Gigaset switched off? Even for a yearly subscription.
Is there any compatibility with other DECT ULE hubs which can be used?
Alternatively can it be made to run on its own with push notifications to email?
I would also be interested in a solution. I have still not removed the system in the hope that something comes up
I got really mad about the non-function system and on such a short notice messaging about it that I took out all sensors, base station etc and switched to an Eufy system. Actually I wanted to switch to a non-cloud version but that would cost me so much all over sudden that I decided not to. Anyways. I can only hope the same is not going to happen to Eufy in the future ā¦ in the meanwhile I will just keep all Gigaset gear. Also switched to everything controlled by HA and will install zigbee sirenes and smoke detectors. Cause ā¦ also THOSE are not really usable anymore. Sure they will work still I guess, smoke detectors but no feedback about battery life or if they were triggered etc.
Hi all,
I was just doing some research on possible Dect ULE base stations with/with out subscription and found the T-Mobile homebase. Although Gigaset is not listed as one of the suppliers, it is compatible with DECT ULE. By any chance is there someone who tried to pair Gigaset sensors to the T-Mobile homebase ? Also can it be used on their Magenta Home App?
Radio standards ZigBee Pro (2.4 GHz - max. 10 dBm) DECT ULE (1.9 GHz - max. 24 dBm) HomeMatic (868.3 MHz - max. 25 mW) HomeMatic IP (869.525 MHz - max. 25 mW) WLAN IEEE 802.11b
A real shame.
Gigaset used to be a Siemens subsidiary, well funded to come up with decent systems.
Their DECT phones are not bad at all, and the Gigaset Care idea was really something.
Too bad they decided to go for proprietary DECT ULE instead of standard HAN-FUN.
The hardware should be compatible with other DECT systems. Their Gigaset elements button looks exactly like AVMās Fritz!DECT 400 button.
I guess they buy at the same factory in china.
And I guess they wouldnāt deviate too far from the HAN FUN standard, only far enough to keep other peopleās (cheaper) hardware out of their system.
Perhaps thereās a way to flash them with AVM firmware and use them with a Fritz!Box ā¦?
A real shameā¦
I have only two smoke alarms and the base station, but still payed good money for it. I never liked the reliance on āthe cloudā (canāt say that I like it even more after thisā¦) but I really liked that it integrated with Philips Hue.
Looks like I will have to come up with some local alternative and create automations for turning on all lights in the house if one alarm goes off.
Still good hardware though, so I guess that many ppl is hoping for some genius to hack/reverse engineer the stuff.
Together with the proprietary APIs they buried millions of EUR in electronic waste.
We should require companies who go bankrupt to open their IP to the public domain or auction it off in a public auction.
