Anyone played around with the new mesh network wifi Google Wifi? Would love to use this router for presence detection.
How would they help with presence detection?
+1 for presence detection on Google Wifi; but I do not think it is possible I have a Google OnHub router (basically the same as Google Wifi) and I have not been able to set up any presence detection based from the router at all.
Try using the nmap component. It works regardless of the router you utilize.
I have set up OnHub triggering IFTT apps when devices connect/disconnect. Works fine.
This is the right answer.
how you do this?
does it work for iOS devices? How does it deal with them when they go to sleep?
You pair your onhub (I assume Google Wifi is the same) with IFTTT. Then you make IFTTT apps for what happens when specific devices connect or disconnect. I used pushbullet to notify me when family connected or disconnected. I never set it up with Home Assistant directly.
I’ve since switched to life360 for this, as it supports logic in IFTTT like “when the last family member leaves the house, then turn off the lights.” To do this with Onhub you’d have to add some logic locally.
but when your iphone goes to sleep, doesn’t that trigger that the device has left the house? Or is your phone doing the triggering, and then what happens if the phone is asleep when you are arriving or leaving the house? Apple phones sleeping has been a royal pain in the (you know where).
I don’t see this. Occasionally I’d get a false leave and then return. Maybe once per week. Maybe it’s not a problem with newer iPhones? What do you have in the house?
3 iphone 6 and 1 iphone 7
I only had a 6 notifying and like I said, maybe once a week.
cool, maybe an option. Thanks
Nope.
This request is about presence detection of DEVICES on the google wifi / onhub router.
The google wifi sensor platform which has been added does not give us access to the devices only information about the router itself.
Anyone using a different solution following IFTTT new pro plan limiting free users to 3 applets?
Couldn’t you use ping for that? I understand your point, but I think a ping sensor would be enough.
Unless Google makes this available (which probably will not happen), this is not possible, the data is not present in the (undocumented API) of the hub.
In IFTTT if you add the google wifi module you can select from a drop down list of every device so some how they were able to access the list.
