I have HassOS on a 512 GB SSD, no SD-Card anymore. I have the SSD and the SkyConnect-Dongle plugged into the ports. The system is powered with an official Raspi power supply. I have never had these issues before and did not change any hardware recently and installed no other software components, nor did I change the config. Only changes were updates to HassOS and my plugins/integrations.
For the SSD integration this fix was implemented and is working without any issues.
Id like to have a look in the logfiles but did not find them.
Really? The pi 4b should be able to deliver 1200 mA to all ports, total 6 Watts. Shouldnt this be enough? Wgat about the logfiles?
Any special recommended hub or any active usb3.x?
A powered hub is needed to ensure you are providing full power to all your USB devices, the more you add the more you need this. rPi is a bit iffy on how much power actually makes it through to those devices. Before doing that my dongles would drop and have all kinds of problems, all gone since adding a powered USB hub. An SSD drive is going to vary in power needs and the USB alone just isn’t enough to call it reliable.
Ideally the rPi build is the rPi + powered USB hub + extension cables for all dongles.
I’ve had great success on both my Home Assistant installs (home and RV) using this one. There could be better ones out there but this hasn’t given me any problems and I run SSD + Zigbee + Z-Wave + Bluetooth dongles on it.
Thanks, all of you.
I did not intend to say that I need or want backpowering, I do not want it, there is some issues with this esp. with the RPi4, worst case would be the RPI gets grilled. But I’ll give you recommendations a shot.
Anyone has an idea where to look for logs from before the crashes?
