HADashboard Tablet Hardware Options

I did the same exact thing!

yeah the kids’ll be dragging the panel off the wall to charge their ruddy cellphones 'cos they lost their chargers.

I believe this to have some potential:

Woo expensive!

Thanks for the info. Did you run the cables from another outlet?

I have a light switch right down the wall I pulled power from.

I don’t see the point in spending that much unless you need it to control something directly. HA dashboard is just a web browser. Why waste the money?

looks interesting. so a nice wall mount stl file is needed for something like this. Has anyone found something for the raspberryPi 7 inch display? I would much prefer that over some cheap android tablet.

My last tablet dyed after about a year of constant on. And then of course it is difficult to get exactly the same again…

hey @murphys_law, I really like your setup. Could you comment on the wall mount you went with?

I purchased it off of ebay. It is 3d printed. Unfortunately it looks like the seller is no longer selling/making it. That being said, you may be able to get in contact via ebay and request it. EDIT: I also found the same person on etsy.

Full Size ipad works well, but not a cheap solution to put on the wall.

Thanks for spotting the Etsy shop! It says they will be back in a week

Have any of you guys tried the new Amazon Show Mode dock? (https://www.amazon.com/All-New-Tablet-Hands-Free-Alexa-Display/dp/B07FQVQZKN/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1541632254&sr=8-1&keywords=amazon%2Btablet&th=1)
It seems you can mount that on the wall and it will provide charging and clean installation. And an added bonus it can be used as alexa when you walk up to it. Not sure if it will fall of the wall. Anyone tried this?

I didn’t see any pic of it mounted on the wall. And reading the one star reviews is depressing.

dont expect a lot from the alexa, when you got echos anywhere else.

i got a firetab 7 with alexa. when i dont close the door she doesnt listen because an echo dot in another room can hear me and that takes preference.

I did see one review of a guy mounting it on the wall and said it works great. I ordered one yesterday will tell you how it goes

I have. Fire 8 with the Dock, I purchased when it was in a promo bundle (~$90). It is actually 3 pieces, the dock itself which I hard-mounted on the wall with the power cable behind the wall, a sleeve that stays with the Fire Tablet, it has 2 contact points in the back and a micro USB male connector which you plug into the tablet. The tablet/sleeve will fall off however unless secured by a velcro. It works well for me in the Family Room as I can take it off the wall, but I prefer my other installs with Fire7 and a custom 3D printed cover (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2620413)

i use ipad min4 … i use safari with a desktop bookmark running in guided access
i mount the ipad on the wall using VidaMount Fixed Wall iPad / Tablet Mount $114 composed of a housing for the ipad and hardware to mount to a 2 gang outlet box
i had a 2gang outlet installed 7" above an existing wall switch using a outlet with usb power … the vida box product mounts to the outlet box … you can only have one outlet in the box because you must rotate the outlet 90 degrees to make it work with the vida box mount

Hi all.

Just starting to look for a tablet to wall mount. Have plenty of anroid type ones on ebay here in Oz. Would there be an reason these dont work? Would need to 3d print a mount but for now just needing something for the partner to be able to use to alter bits and pieces

I would look for a decent resolution, and something beyond android 4. There seem to be plenty of android 6 and 7 tablets about.

I plan on building a mount out of picture framing, paint it black. That’s a personal thing, I think it looks better than 3d printed plastic
