Hello User,
how can i install HOAS with KVM Legacy Bios?
I just managed to install HAOS on non-UEFI system. If anyone will be stucked with this here is an overview of what I did:
Write image of haos_generic-x86-64-9.4.img.xz with Etcher
Boot some linux distro (e.g. Ubuntu) and create 3 partitions at this SSD/HDD: /boot (~ 500MB), bios_grub (~ 1MB) and root (I used 20GB for this)
Install some Linux on this partitions (I used Debian) next to HAOS, which will install Grub at disk bootloader area e.g. /dev/sda (it’s possible to install Grub only, not wh…
Can i convert the haos_generic-x86-64-10.3.img.xz to a haos_generic-x86-64-10.3.qcow2 system?
Any idea?
Thank’s

If you are wanting to install HA on KVM, take a look at:
and in particular the instructions for KVM.
It already provides you with a qcow2 image, and it will use a UEFI non-secure boot file to boot HAOS.
Maybe I’m missing something, but I don’t think you need to worry about a non-UEFI boot process for this.

The haos_ova-10.3.qcow2 doesn’t start without UEFI.

Right. Is there a reason you don’t want to use UEFI?

By “system” do you mean your physical machine?

Right, and now you are trying to boot a virtual machine (KVM), so I would think your KVM can boot using UEFI independent of how your physical machine boots.

The haos_ova-10.3.qcow2 needs a UEFI Bios.
I search a KVM solution for my only legacy Bios system.

We didn’t can use HAOS KVM Install with legacy Bios?
I’m currently running Home Assistant OS via VM on Proxmox on a 2011 Dell XPS 8300, which does not have a UEFI bios option.
I’m interested in moving to the Generic x86-64 image to remove Proxmox from the equation since I have no desire to run other VMs on this machine. There are also some weird disk consumption issues I’m persistently running into in Proxmox that I have not yet solved, so I’m hoping that moving to the Generic x86-64 image I’ll remove that complexity and focus just on Home Assis…
