Hass NFC - Control Home Assistant with NFC tags

Does it give an error? Can you write something to the tag with the app called NFC Tools? If so, try again in Hass NFC. If both apps can’t write to the tag there’s something wrong with the tag.

I had issues finding the sweet spot for the NFC read/write on the phone. I got it now!

Thanks for your time.

Two more questions. Can anyone else scan this NFC code without having the app?

Also im having issue getting this to work on my local network. I can get it working through public dns.

People can always scan the tag, but there’s nothing really to see/do with it. Things like your password and Hass address are safely stored inside the app on your phone.

If you’re running it via a local network make sure you’re connected on the same network, and that you us HTTP instead of HTTPS. Also try to play with the SSL verification switch.

So use http://192.168.1.10:8123 ???

SSL off?

Wow I got it already. dang

indeed, the info on the tag is indeed limited
but how does this actually works? how does your android phone knows, when you scan the TAG, that it needs to open and excequte HassNFC ?

Great

@pergola.fabio This is some nice magic in Android. Hass NFC registers a specific type of NFC tag. The app writes this unique type and then Android knows to forward that tag data to Hass NFC. This is a very clever trick, because tags that are not written with Hass NFC are also not forwarded to the app. This way it doesn’t interfere with regular usage of tags.

ah, cool
thnx for info
so that unique id, so if android is complete factory defaults, it means you also need to rewrite the NFC tags?, and also 1 NFC tag, can only be linked with 1 smartphone?

Sorry no, I meant that all tags from Hass NFC use a generic (but unique compared to other apps) ID so that any tag written by the Hass NFC app will be readable. Doesn’t matter which phone you used to write it with.

As long as the phone you scan with has Hass NFC installed and configured correctly, it should work.

Is it possible to operate and integrate into the HA with a samsung shs-3321 door lock?

Example: https://blog.lewys.eu/?p=479

It will work if there’s a regular nfc chip inside that you can write to and home assistent can open it remotely. But I don’t think this is really the case. Not familiar with it so not sure.

I’ve been using this app for a lot of things but for the life of me cant figure out how to simply toggle a light on/off. I’ve tried using the entity id without success

That should do the trick! Try homeassistant domain and then toggle. I’ve used light and toggle alot. Maybe it doesn’t work in some versions? You don’t get an error?

Suggestion: Make a website or patreon or something and make it so people pay there and get access to either an apk, or like credentials to sign in to it.

What would be the benefit of that? I could give a code people can use to redeem in the app store, but I wouldn’t be too keen on giving out .apk files.

Great app!!! I can help with spanish and italian translation if you’d like, just let me know how.

Cheers! Wow that would be great! Could you PM me your email address so I can send you the files and instructions? Thanks again!

I’ve just published the new version of Hass NFC in the Play Store with added Italian and Spanish translations. Thanks again to @Tere_Ruiz!

Huge thanks to the Dev on this one. Awesome work.

For those trying to use Nabu Casa:
-Create a long-lived token via your Home Assistant page.
-In Hass NFC app settings, paste the Nabu Casa remote address: https://youxxxxxxxxxx
(I had to remove the forward slash at the end of the address)
Paste your long-lived token.
Don’t disable SSL

That’s how mine is working. Good luck!
