Home Assistant AdGuard is GREAT until it isn't

Alright, I have Home Assistant on a RaspberryPi 5 which works GREAT. I have AdGuard installed and it works GREAT. Everything is great!

Unfortunately, if our power goes out or I need to reset our router, AdGuard starts and runs but traffic does not flow freely. I have “start on reboot” enabled and it does show as active when I log into Home Assistant but, nah.

This is a problem when we travel, we have a power outage, and the internet gets blocked in inconvenient ways (nest thermostats blocked, arlo cameras not blocked).

It’s resolved by me logging in and restarting AdGuard but, obviously, not the best.

Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

Definitely not normal behavior nor something I’ve experienced. Might get a better response on the Adguard add-on thread:

My advice, don’t use any DNS Redirector unless you are ready your fix stuff constantly.

What ‘Problem’ are you trying to solve with it?
Are you controlling the bad list or is someone else?
What makes you think these lists of bad addresses made up by random people are doing what you want, or are they bad actors as well?

Why do you want to use Adguard?
Recent Quote from user: “I don’t really understand what it does”
That’s the problem with AdGuard and Pihole.
That’s why I do not suggest anyone use it unless you understand what it does.
It provides a man-in-the-middle attack on your personal data to supposedly “help” you, but always does what people tell it and people have no idea what they are telling it to do. It has ZERO to do with security.
Result is this cry for help repeated over and over… I can’t get websites to reply & DNS broken…
If the goal is security, this does not help. If the goal is keeping the teenagers out of dark places on the net, they will find them anyway. If the goal is to get frustrated with your DNS messing up and to keep content providers from getting paid for what you use, then you are in luck, as your experience shows.

This is one experienced Man’s opinion, do with it what you will. Oh, and you may need this to get your HA talking to a real DNS server again. How to set DNS after first install
