Home Assistant Automations Gui Extreme Lag

Hello! When i try to create an automation from gui these things happen : Misstyped characters, dropdown menus scroll up by itself, hassio becomes totally unresponsive for some time etc. When i start to create an automation it goes smooth for several seconds and then it starts to lag. I am running hass.io on virtual box (4 cpu cores, 4gb ram, ssd). (pc specs: Intel core i3 8100, 8gb ddr4 ram, samsung ssd, os: windows 10 pro)

Can someone please tell me what is causing this or how i can fix it?

Thank you.

Hey BigHomie, It appears I have a similar problem. Have you figured out anything as to what is causing it?

Unfortunately, with all my searching I didn’t find your post and I started another here

Thank you,

Sam

Hello! I made a snapshot first and then i started removing one by one my integrations (cause i have some custom integrations) and i saw a huge improvement when i removed (elad-bar/ha-edgeos).
The problem still exists but the automation editor behaves way better than before. Also, i noticed that as my automation gets bigger (adding more triggers, conditions etc.) the lag increases too much till the whole page becomes unresponsive.

Thanks for the reply @BigHomie , I have started doing pretty much the same thing. Removing different integrations/add-on’s to see if I get any improvement. Unfortunately when I uninstalled the Grocy add-on, My home assistant docker container would not startup anymore. This is where I made a big mistake. I decided to trash to old container and spin up a new container and load my latest backup/snapshot! It seemed like a good idea! Until something went wrong with the backup and I lost a lot of files! I lost my themes.yaml, secrets.yaml, scrips.yaml, www folder, esphome files(I have a lot of esphome devices) and more! I have a few older backups that I can try. If nothing else it is an opportunity start fresh I guess :man_shrugging:

That’s what happened to me when I first build my home assistant and the felt discouraged to build it from scratch…Either way maybe we find the cause of this while tinkering with it. For now l, I started using node red and I can say that is pretty easy and really fast for simple automations that I want to make. At least there is no lag that was preventing me using automation editor in home assistant.

I failed to recover from any of my backups, so I started from scratch. This actually wasn’t so bad as it gave me the perfect opportunity to make some upgrades to the host system that I wanted to do. I added some ram, decided to run ubuntu server headless, and now I have a nice fresh install. No more old unused images or containers from me learning docker.

At this point I have most things setup again and starting on the automatons only to discover the original issue that started all of this is still there!

I installed node red awhile back but didn’t take the time learn it. I think it is time to take that step now. I hear and see good things about it.

Best of luck! And Thank you!

Sam

I have the same issue.
I started from scratch a couple a days ago.
Home Assistant Supervised running on Ubuntu Server / Docker. i3 CPU, 4GB RAM.
I have 4 add-ons, 2 plugins from HACS, about 30-ish automations.

I love the GUI editor, but the lag is frustrating.
