Home camera

Hi guys,

Anybody suggest a home camera with the following requirements:

Ability to connect to HA (MJPEG)
Ability to connect to Synology
Ability to connect to Homekit/Homebridge (RTSP)
No cloud recording
Nice design, similar to D-Link DCS-8000LH
Cost less than $100

All cameras I found in this range are ugly or cloud cameras.

Reolink RLC-410. I have 3 and they work with synology and under $100 AUD if you hunt around

I don’t know anything about Homekit but the cameras I use work with HA and have RTSP (so if thats all you need for Homekit?), dont use cloud and are cheap but excellent video quality. They are from http://ccdcam.com

I get the PoE HD dome cameras (model EC-IV7523VLP) which are only US$51.50 plus postage. The postage they charge to me here in Australia isn’t too bad at all. I like this model because they have varifocal lenses. The body is fully aluminium so nice and strong.

I’ve also installed a few of their NVR’s which have been great.

I thought I’d look at Reolink after reading this but noticed the below:

I guess that’s not quite true if you have got them working with Synology? The NVR also says it won’t work with other branded cameras… it seems like the same scenario as Ubiquity gear

Xiaomi Dafang. https://github.com/EliasKotlyar/Xiaomi-Dafang-Hacks/

Thats one ugly camera… and not IP rated to be outside. Does the hack allow for a better frame rate? Their website says 15fps at full HD, thats not good

I’ll assume you are replying to me.

The camera is a very similar form factor to the D-Link DCS-8000LH that the OP liked. It is rectangular rather than round, but other than that very similar. https://github.com/EliasKotlyar/Xiaomi-Dafang-Hacks/blob/master/dafang.png

IP rated was not a requirement.

Not sure what frame rate I am getting.

Yeah sorry, I was referring to the Dafang. I did overlook the D-Link camera I must say… which is also ugly :joy: but hey, personal preference.

I had a long stint in commercial CCTV installation so for me it was always about cameras which are relatively concealed and have a minimum of full HD at full frame rate (25/30).

Personally I don’t see a need for cameras inside the home and am against it, but that is up to the individual, but that’s why I jumped to IP rated cameras. I didn’t quite read the OP’s requirements properly regarding form factor.

do you have the motion detection working with home assistant ?

Yes it works fine.

I have one foscam ptz in each room, just for security when house is empty. When a door or window sensor trigger the camera in that room move to that window and stsrts recording. Foscam has published all cgi scripts you can use to control their cameras.

Thank you all for replies.

Here my summary:

Xiaomi Xiaofang 1S / Wyze Cam V2
Xiaomi Dafang / Wyze Cam Pan
Both can be expanded with custom firmware.

YI Home Camera
Yi 1080p Home
Same thing, more stuff with custom firmware.

Ubiquiti UniFi Video Camera G3 Flex
Great camera, possible to set up as a standalone camera, but required POE, no wifi

Also, I found out that RTSP available on D-Link DCS-8000LH

I think I’ll try Xiaomi Xiaofang 1S first as it is super cheap.

as far as I know you can’t hack the Xiaofang anymore because the last firmware ignore the modify config file when booting.

The Dafang is still ok, and this one also : https://github.com/miicam/MiiCam

I use a Foscam C1. Out of the box ONVIF and RTSP support.
Works brilliant with Synology
Works brilliant with Hass.io via either RTSP stream or official Foscam component
Also has night vision, 720p resolution and a PIR to use motion detection.
Simply download the Foscam app, connect the camera, block local ip assigned to the camera to connect to internet, trash the Foscam app and enjoy in Home Assistant.
Costs 50 euro

motion detection working over HA ?
can record on NVR ?

No NVR experience, but i use my Synology NAS to record.
