Hya,

by creating cards, there are icons, like hass:flash. Where can i find a complete list of available icons?

Here are the ones I use: Material Design Icons.

example: mdi:lightbulb = lightbulb

Is it actually “better” to use hass:icon over mdi:icon?

I don’t think it makes a difference. However zhe hass:icons have way less available icons than mdi:icons

her is one website: https://materialdesignicons.com/
Search for your icon, select one and just copy the name of the icon and use it with mdi:
ex :
mdi:account-box
mdi:airballoon
most of the icon will work

Apparently you shouldn’t use hass: icons:

Just use the materialdesign ones. If the site is too slow for you, use https://mdisearch.com/
