If your frontend looks weird today

Did you read his statement in the repo?

I woke up early and thought it was my eyes…nothing really disturbing.
On the french HA community there was a reference of being sensitive to Trojan’s :racehorse:

You are not wrong in what you said, but you also cannot imagine how bad things could have been if there had been malicious intent.

You posted just a few secs after mine… so IS there a risk in HA on malicious intent?

ofc, I read them all, because its the best of the best.

I had a great laugh, and when I saw the update popup before the date turned, I waited for it to happen.

really appreciate it

honestly you amaze me.

Mine is still wonky even after the update :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

UPDATE: If you use UI Lovelace Minimalist with this setting turned on the update doesn’t work.

You have to remove it from: custom_components\ui_lovelace_minimalist\cards

Yes. Like it! :+1:

There are always risks.
The core is rather safe. It’s kept up to date, there are lots and lots of eyes on it, and there are actual security audits performed regularly.

Custom stuff… not so much.
But volunteers are actually going through the new stuff on HACS and look for bad or risky things on their free time - we all cannot appreciate their work enough!
That said, sometimes things slip through, and updates are not checked, because people want them NOW.

Good to know…I do have quite a bit of custom stuff, 70% HACS but also ‘direct’ downloads. And even my own docker solution banks on another development which my docker just installs without checking

And by stating that in the way you did in the repo/update mad you lost my trust as a developer.

You made a choice by putting in a april fool’s joke in your code. I understand someone can laugh at it, but I also understand that there are people who depend on their HA instance and find this intimidating / intruding.
I must confess, I couldn’t laugh at at when I was half a slepe at 4:30 AM logging in to my HA after a power failure in the city …

But you completely lost my respect (and trust) with the message in the update, which you only wrote after you find out not everyone could laugh on the wonky cards.

Hi Thomas,

U sure got me fooled!
Yesterday evening I was playing around with the custom cards form the minimalist ui, so I was looking in there for two hours yaml-ing, before I did an internet search.
Well done, mate!

I remember writing about my shock that Lovelace was built on third party resources when it came out. It was pointed out that a lot of home assistant is too.

I’ve leaned to stop worrying and love the bomb.

I find it pretty funny and harmless. Thanks for bringing some change!

I’m astounded at some of the negative and aggressive comments above, all over an April fools joke!

To those feining outrage and carrying on, please remember you were only affected by this because you chose to take advantage of something Thomas created, shared and maintains, along with many other amazing cards and add-ons to Home Assistant that make it possible for us ALL to have the dashboards that we do!

Moreover he has apologised in many comments both here and on GitHub, so get over yourself, say Thank you and move on.

Thanks for the gag and the easy way to fix…

There are other ways to inform people about the risks of installing custom components. This might be a joke for you, but it cost me about an hour to figure it out (because i installed the minimalist theme).

as what @koffie said, by choosing to “inform” people up about installing custom components, you lost my trust in you as a worthfull developer.

offcourse it is my own risk to install custom components. But I trusted your software, because of your github page, because you are an moderator on this forum, because all of the good software you deliver for Home Assistant.

And indeed, your message about informing people about the risks smells like an coverup of your “funny joke”

tbh, anyone seeing their frontend tilted should have thought about card-mod even without any warning at all… it should have taken you 2 minutes to realize And fix it.

but what I don’t get is that people never post anything, then are ‘surprised’ by the tiniest of harmless jokes because they never check what they install, and then start ranting.

Now who is losing their credibility here I wonder…

please look into the mirror and adapt your behavior of installing software, and get mad at yourselves for not having done that.

Really? You are using card-mod (so you should at least have some css/html-knowhow) and then you need hours to find this simple/single css?

Calm down. Uninstall card-mod if you worry about such fool and the great work from Thomas instead of ranting here this way.

i was in no position to understand or fix this ‘joke’ today 50 miles from home with only access to an iPhone, and it’s had real health-related consequences for me today. Yes, i absolutely will be uninstalling cardmod and probably this whole system-- i have no trust now.
