Im New and need all the help i can get

Now you understand why I advised not to install it along side your LibreELEC - because eventually, youd go wrong or get some error which means youd have to start again
No point in risking your Kodi install

If youre going for a new Pi3, then I would either try the hassio solution, or the working image that has everything you need to get started

couple of questions

1: should I use the new Pi 3 for my kodi setup and the Pi2 for assistant or vice versa.
2: wemo plugs or tp link does it make a difference was gonna pick a coupe up with pi 3
3: what size sd card do i need for the assistant is 1gb enough or should i get 16gb

Thats it for now

thanks again for all your help

ps I will be mindfull to not make too many posts as I will possibly be stopped again for 4 hours grrrrr.

  1. Doesnt matter from a HASS point of view, it will run on either. A Pi3 will run Kodi better, but again, doesnt actually make much difference
  2. There are components for both - make sure to pick up the ones that are supported, see the components pages for Wemo and TPLink switches respectively for a list of supported devices
  3. 16GB definitely better, I dont think youll be able to install HASS on a 1GB card to be honest (its database can grow larger than that if you have a lot of components in it)

l iā€™m new to this and this guy has a step by step tutorial home-assistant for beginners super easy the best tutorial on you tube

It doesnt say on the hassbian installation instructions but am i supposed to unzip the image file first
It looks like etcher did it for me but I ask as I cant connect at
http://hassbian.local:8123/

dont answer that yes is the answer on it now

Still canā€™t access it at
http://hassbian.local:8123

Have found its ip address so it is on the network, but simply wont connect via ip address states connection refused

any help would be great

yes sometimes it happens it took me like 3 times to burned the image with etcher the other thing is that when you insert the card to the pi it takes like 5-7 minutes to start homeassistant

follow the tutorial

I have but it still wonā€™t let me connect
I think Iā€™m missing something

Try using the ip address e.g. 192.168.1.7:8123 instead of using dns

same thing its doing my head in.

i can see it on the router but

You have checked that HA is running on the PI? ps -aux should show HA runningā€¦

homeass+ 19536 47.2 7.0 273028 66848 ? Rsl 00:01 1:38 /srv/homeassistant/homeassistant_venv/bin/python3 /srv/homeassistant/homeassistant_venv/bin/hass -c /home

Your result may differ as Iā€™m running AIO install not hasbian but there should be something to show its running.

Hi and thanks but im lost as to what that means or how to do it.

you need to type ps -aux on the command line, usually done via ssh or if you have monitor and keyboard attached via the gui terminal program

trying to conect to it have it hooked to tv as we speak

When I try ssh pi@<192.168.1.16>

I get

-bash: syntax error near unexpected token `newlineā€™

bloody walkthoughs removed the <> and im on

pi@hassbian:~ $ ps -aux

Doesnā€™t look like HA is running try to find out what the start command for hassbian is, I use

sudo systemctl restart home-assistant.service

for the AIO install

Iā€™m signing off for now as early start tomorrow

no worries thanks. Me too but its doing my head in so will give it another hourā€¦

Thanks for all your help so far, I am wiping and re flashing the card again to see if that helps

Then will try your command if no joy

Re installed and ran but and have homeassistant showing up as seen below

but still no access

Sleep time for now but any advice for tomorrow evengings enthraling episode please feel freeā€¦

So here is what i have done incase anyone can spot my error

downloaded file.

Tried burning zip to file it worked but no home assistant. Tried unzipping and burning image to write it to sd card and again it worked and seems to install Homeassistant but when trying to start or stop home assistant it states it isnt there to start.

tried to manually install homeassistant manualy but came up with errors.

Just to be clear I am writing hassbian to a clean sd card with nothing previously installed onto the PI3
