Improv Wi-Fi Serial not detected

Hitting a snag with this one. Got a virtual box VM with HA, ESPHome builder Addon. Setup devices but cant seem to connect to the Wifi. I am using an ESP32 32D Development Board TYPE-C Micro USB WiFi+Bluetooth Ultra-Low Power Consumption SPI Flash 32Mbits Wireless Module. I keep getting "An error occurred. Improv Wi-Fi Serial not detected. Looked up forums, guthub, reddit etc. Anyone can help resolve this for me. Regards

I am new to HA/ESPHome. I was able to get two ESP32 devices on my HA install without much issue. I’m now trying to add a D1 Mini 8266 and I’m stuck at the initial set up. I use Prepare for Adoption from the web UI and the install succeeds, but then the next thing that happens is “An error occurred. Improv Wi-Fi Serial not detected.” I have tried the prepare for adoption step multiple times and the sequence of events is the same. I’ve already tried unplugging and replugging the D1 to my computer…

I tried all sorts, stumbled on a video on youtute which helped with the error. I have managed to get the device online but I cannot visit the page. Is there something wrong I am doing?
