Installation method 2

good day to all !
I am going to install HA using method 2 . I did load my hard disk as instructed but when i do plug it into the target PC, it is not shown in the boot list. If I do connect the same HD to the target PS via an USB adapter then it is listed in the boot sequence and it is working properly. How to have it on a SATA as a single HD unit ? Thanks in advance for any help .
Regards, Ambrogio

You might need to follow the efibootmgr procedure.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion. Sine I am very new to this procedure, I am asking if you could indicate a link or detailed procedure in order for the mini PC to boot from the HD. Thanks in advance for the assistance

Hi, welcome to the forum!

With “installation method 2” your mean Home Assistant Container, right?
What kind of hardware are you using, give us more details to be able to help you the best we can.

thanks : I am using a Fujitsu Q556 mini PC with 8 GRAM, 500 GB HD ( probably it has no OS installed ). I am using method 2 and everythings go fine BUT when I remove the USB medium and reboot the mini PC then it says that there is no bootable device : I selected the HD drive. I have also tryed method 1 bat no way . Thanks for all, regards

It’s not the installation method but most likely the boot settings of your PC.
Try with the F9 key at boot-up to see if you can select the boot drive.

This might be the result of UEFI settings; have a look at this https://support.ts.fujitsu.com/Dokumente/FAQ/2343046094-FAQ_BOOT_DEVICE_NOT_FOUND_IN_UEFI_MODE_EN.pdf if it can help.

Also, check this: Generic x86-64 - Home Assistant

Thanks Nick4 : I read all the pdf file but still not able to boot from the mini PC HD. I think you are right that could be a problem in the BIOS boot section but I am not able to overcome it. The product is Esprimo Q556 model MPC3, PN is ABN:K1012-V100-579 and the BIOS is 2.17.1254. Thanks for all , regards

Dear Nick: I connected an external USB HD on the mini PC > It is working well and I have Home Assistant page dispalyed . I am still thinking on how to make it bbotable from the internal HD, Regards

hey - I made an account just to spare you the pain. the x86 instructions for method 2 are… lacking. Do yourself a favor and pull the internal drive and connect it to a USB to (whatever your hdd interface is) adapter. Use rufus to write the extracted image file directly to the disc. reinstall the hard drive and boot. you’re done.

also since you’ve probably done some work already, go do a backup in your current HA instance on the external drive and then download that backup file to your local machine. you can restore from that once you start over - it asks you during initial setup.

I beat my head against this for more than an hour for no reason, the documentation needs to be updated for Method 2. By default, HA just runs from whatever USB drive you write the image to.
