Is this the perfect standalone tablet for HA?

Guides are good, just USB connection flaky but got 4 done in an hour now.

Glad you got it working in the end. Linux on a Pi can be a bit of a learning curve. There was also some issues with newer Python installs.

Did anyone get this working with the wake word using the build in mic?

Yes, have a look at View Assist

I am kind of confused at the link provided. I followed this link to set everything up but yours seems to be missing some context. Iā€™ve seen some people talk about getting the wake word working but they needed to update android os to ver 10 and following the instructions I used I have android 8.

My setup guide (that you linked to) doesnā€™t go into wake word - thatā€™s more specialist and something for when you have the device OS installed.

The View Assist project (by Dinki) builds on that. Itā€™s really designed to be a whole ecosystem for, well, a voice assistant. Part of that is wake word detection but it goes way further than that. Wake word in that case is running on the HA server but it uses the built-in mic on the Lenovo TSV. Itā€™s very responsive though.

Some people have been discussing local wake word if thatā€™s what you are after - but Iā€™ve not tried that and not intending to.

I found the discord for the wake word and get it now. If I could add anything I would go into the wake word starting off listing your git page and say this is taking off assuming you have done the following.

Thank you also for your work you have done!!! I fing love repurposing for the ultimate home hub!!

Im interested in checking this out. Ill have to re read the thread

@pgale quick question for you

I know you originally imported a couple of devices into the UK via an Amazon purchase but Im wondering why you didnā€™t just order directly from Amazon US and have them deliver it

Iā€™ve found this one on Amazon US and I can have it shipped to the UK all in for Ā£72.61

I know that isnā€™t cheap still but it is better than some of the eBay prices

That said there could be a reason why you did it the way you did it so thought Iā€™d reach out first on the off chance.

Iā€™ve been following this post from its early conception and then today read through pretty much every postā€¦so its amazing to see how far things have come onā€¦

Thanks in advance

Hi Jon,

When I bought mine, Amazon didnā€™t offer shipping to the UK. Maybe youā€™ve found a different marketplace seller that obviously now does

I bought mine in batches of two to try and avoid duty/VAT. I canā€™t remember the exact landed costs but it was around Ā£45 each inc shipping. I didnā€™t ever get charged VAT (or duty but wasnā€™t expecting that as they were below the threshold). Mine were shipped UPS and FedEx. A week to get across the US and 2-3 days US to UK.

Thanks. Think Iā€™ll bite the bullet on one of these and follow your process.

Yeah still cheaper than the UK EBay sellers Iā€™ve seen.

When using this device as a screen, i suppose the device will stay working if you ever have to move home assistant to a new PC and restore a backup? as long as the IP address is the same etc?

By the way these are 62 euro to europe through amazon. not bad for EU customers.

well Iā€™ve now ordered one so in a few weeks Iā€™ll be able to start playing properlyā€¦Out of interest, for those that have bought devices from the USā€¦did you just use an adapter for the power brick or did you source something with a UK plug?

Just a shaver adapter plug. The PSU is multi voltage of course. Bit bulky but fine for my devices around the house.

There was a post somewhere about replacement UK PSU but I canā€™t remember where.

Thereā€™s your arbitrage side gig!

price upped to 72 euro overnight.
a week ago i got these for 61 euro per piece. bought two.

New deal found for EU customers, around 60 devices remaining. (refurbished)

55 euro per device, shipping to netherlands was free above 100 euro. seems to other EU countries they ask 15 euro shipping.

Hi everyone. I am currently trying a Windows 11 setup and got a lot of good tips from @Nerwyn 's post (and the sub-tip about updating the USB driver after going into edl mode).

However, no matter what I do, I canā€™t seem to get past Device detected :)
I have tried different USB ports, put a basic USB hub between the PC and the device, different cables. I have also double checked all of my paths. Please let me know how else I can troubleshoot this thing. Is there a verbose mode or anything?

Output is below. And thank you in advance!

C:\Users\tntbr\edl>edl qfil flash\bin\rawprogram.xml flash\bin\patch0.xml flash\flash\ --loader=flash\bin\prog_emmc_firehose_8953_ddr.mbn
Qualcomm Sahara / Firehose Client V3.62 (c) B.Kerler 2018-2024.
main - Using loader flash\bin\prog_emmc_firehose_8953_ddr.mbn ...
main - Waiting for the device
main - Device detected :)

and once I unplug the USB cable:

DeviceClass - USBError(32, 'Pipe error')
Device is in Sahara error state, please reboot the device.
main - Mode detected: error
Connection detected, quiting.
